GAINESVILLE – Florida High School Football is pleased to announce the official launch of a new high school football team ranking system exclusively for Florida in time for the 2016 season.
The new rankings to be called the “FHSF Team Power RankingsTM,” will offer something different for fans of high school football in the state.
The new ranking which grew out an idea suggested to us by a few coaches, will help bring a highly vetted media vote along with the ballots of coaches from all eight classifications to make up the other part of the ranking,
The other part of the ranking will include factors, but not limited to like a team’s winning percentage, opponents winning percentage as well as what two computer polls are saying about our teams.
“Being able to take an idea and allow the coaches to have a voice is something that most wouldn’t ever attempt to do.,” said FHSF Publisher Joshua Wilson. “Giving a voice to the coaches who see these games first hand and follow what is going on in their classification each week should be a no brainer, but no one has been willing to step outside the box until now.”
The exclusive formula developed by the Florida High School Football team believes that it will produce the most accurate ranking for high school football teams by including the voices of the coaches along with other factors that should be considered when ranking a team.
“When you factor in the different elements that should matter in a ranking like how well is a team playing, how their opponents are doing and how tough the schedule is for each team, it will tell us where each team really stands with everyone else,” Wilson said.
When the rankings are released, they will be formatted in a “BCS-style” output, ranking the Top 10 teams in each classification.
As for the initial reaction from the coaches?
“The response has been great so far from coaches wanting to take part of this. So far we have had over 50 coaches sign up to take part within their respective classification. Our goal is to have coaching representation within each of the four FHSAA regions that each classification has. We still have slots open, so if a head coach is interested, please feel to contact me,” Wilson said.
In total there will be 120 slots with each classification getting 15 coaches votes. Each region will be allowed to have three coaches voting while there are three more at-large slots from any of the four regions to complete the panel of coaches.
There are still open slots for head coaches to take part. The areas of most desperate need for coaches are from Class 8A, Class 4A, Class 3A and Class 2A right now.
