After missing last week due to illness, Joshua Wilson is back with a look at the Class 5A Regional Rankings with complete analysis as we head into Week 3.
REGION 1
1. Green Cove Springs Clay, 1-0
2. Glen St. Mary Baker County, 1-1
3. Live Oak Suwannee, 2-0
4. Jacksonville Ed White, 1-0
5. Crawfordville Wakulla, 0-1
6. Citra North Marion, 1-0
ANALYSIS: Clay is showing to be the region leader once again this season while Baker County slipped up against Viera in Week 2. Suwannee is off to a solid 2-0 start while Ed White is looking to get win two this week after missing last week due to COVID-19 issues. Wakulla could be off for a second straight week after missing last week due to COVID-19 issues with schedule opponent North Marion, which rounds out the bottom of the Region 1 rankings.
REGION 2
1. Rockledge, 2-0
2. Dunnellon, 0-1
3. Merritt Island, 2-0
4. Satellite Beach Satellite, 2-0
5. Daytona Beach Seabreeze, 1-1
6. Melbourne Palm Bay, 1-0
ANALYSIS: Rockledge is by far the best team in the region so far, but Dunnellon, who had little time to prepare for Buchholz in Week 1 after scheduled opponent St. Augustine canceled due to COVID-19 issues, was off last week. Merritt Island and Satellite are both off to hot starts and we are keeping an eye on Seabreeze and Palm Bay in the final two spots of Region 2.
REGION 3
1. Brooksville Nature Coast, 2-0
2. Sebring, 2-0
3. Zephyrhills, 2-0
4. Port Charlotte, 0-1
5. Clearwater, 1-1
6. Hudson, 2-0
ANALYSIS: Nature Coast and Sebring are clearly standing out so far as two of the top teams from this Region, but Zephyrhills is trying to make a name for itself as well. Port Charlotte could be in the mix as well but is coming off a loss to Charlotte as they finally got the season underway this past week.
REGION 4
1. Plantation American Heritage, 1-1
2. Miami Central, 0-2
3. Miami Killian, 1-0
4. North Miami Beach, 1-1
5. Jensen Beach, 1-0
6. Fort Myers Cypress Lake, 1-1
ANALYSIS: We feel the two best teams in Class 5A sit in Region 4 and that is with American Heritage and Miami Central who our No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the region. However, it should be noted that Miami Central is 0-2 for the first time in 15 years, so this is a bit of a trend we don’t see with the Rockets. There is the hype surrounding Miami Killian, but we are curious if the hype will last as we get closer to the midway point of the season. North Miami Beach we feel is still the fourth best team in the region despite getting blown out by Sanford Seminole last week.
