After missing last week due to illness, Joshua Wilson is back with a look at the Class 8A Regional Rankings with complete analysis as we head into Week 3.
REGION 1
1. Sanford Seminole, 2-0
2. Apopka, 2-0
3. St. Johns Bartram Trail, 2-0
4. Lake Mary, 2-0
5. Flagler Palm Coast, 1-0
6. Winter Park, 1-0
ANALYSIS: Region 1 is starting to shape to be one of the hottest regions in Class 8A with Sanford Seminole, Apopka, Bartram Trail, and Lake Mary all off to hot 2-0 starts. Lake Mary has been especially impressive wins over Lake Gibson and Winter Park to start the season. Flagler Palm Coast enters the rankings thanks to their huge win over Mainland.
REGION 2
1. Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast, 1-0
2. Vero Beach, 1-1
3. Orlando Boone, 1-0
4. Wellington Palm Beach Central, 2-0
5. Lake Worth Park Vista, 2-0
6. Palm Beach Gardens, 1-1
ANALYSIS: Treasure Coast remains on top after losing their Week 2 opponent due to COVID-19. It will be interesting to see if any momentum with their Week 1 win over Plantation American Heritage is still there. Vero Beach rebounded with a win over Bartow who was a last-second replacement for Martin County last week. Palm Beach Central picked up a huge win over Dwyer to move to 2-0 on the season.
REGION 3
1. Venice, 1-0
2. Kissimmee Osceola, 0-1
3. Winter Garden West Orange, 1-1
4. Lithia Newsome, 1-1
5. Sarasota Riverview, 1-1
6. Orlando Olympia, 1-0
ANALYSIS: Venice got the season started last week after their Week 1 game against Cardinal Gibbons was rescheduled in October. Osceola also got its season started a week late and fell by just one to Cocoa. West Orange had a fight against Apopka before stumbling in the second half to take their first loss of the season. Riverview picked up its first win last week in a put-together matchup against Lehigh.
REGION 4
1. Miami Columbus, 1-1-
2. Miami Palmetto, 1-0
3. Deerfield Beach, 1-1
4. Davie Western, 1-1
5. Boca Raton, 1-0
6. Parkland Stoneman Douglas, 2-0
ANALYSIS: It is hard to move things around especially the fact that Columbus played Bartram Trail close in a loss up in St. Johns. However, we did notch Deerfield Beach down one spot after the strange loss to Dillard that ended with COVID-19 issues at halftime. Meanwhile Western, Boca Raton, and Stoneman Douglas round out the bottom of the Region 4 rankings.
