Eight weeks are in the books for the 2021 Florida high school football season and the FHSAA has released their latest look at the RPI football playoff rankings as we head into Week 9 of the season.
As such this update provides the entire state a glimpse of what the potential playoff matchups could be looking like come the second week of November, but remember things change, as we still have three weeks worth of games (including this week) to go, however, the playoff picture is starting to become much more clearer with few games left.
In Classes 5A-8A, district record was taken into consideration except on certain exceptions which are noted.
For Class 1A, you will find a breakdown of RPI rankings for each team in every region and a projected seeding (including tiebreakers) based upon the guidelines as published by the FHSAA (click here to view), as well as quick thoughts about each region.
REGION 1
Rank | Team | Record | RPI |
1 | Baker | 5-1 | 0.659 |
2 | Chipley | 5-2 | 0.589 |
3 | Holmes County | 5-2 | 0.578 |
4 | Northview | 2-4 | 0.473 |
5 | Freeport | 3-4 | 0.471 |
6 | Bozeman | 4-4 | 0.465 |
7 | Jay | 0-7 | 0.394 |
8 | Graceville | 1-6 | 0.373 |
9 | Cottondale | 1-5 | 0.323 |
10 | Vernon | 0-5 | 0.293 |
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 1 Baker – BYE
No. 5 Freeport vs. No. 4 Northview
No. 6 Bozeman vs. No. 3 Holmes County
No. 2 Chipley- BYE
QUICK THOUGHTS: Got some really interesting movement going on here in this region with Chipley besting Holmes County this week to move into the No. 2 spot. Baker still remains the clear-cut leader in the region and at this has likely locked in the No. 1 seed overall with three weeks left.
REGION 2
Rank | Team | Record | RPI |
1 | Blountstown | 5-1 | 0.622 |
2 | Port St. Joe | 5-1 | 0.619 |
3 | Madison County | 4-3 | 0.560 |
4 | Liberty County | 6-1 | 0.538 |
5 | Sneads | 5-2 | 0.533 |
6 | Wewahitchka | 2-5 | 0.392 |
7 | Jefferson County | 2-5 | 0.385 |
8 | Hamilton County | 1-6 | 0.363 |
9 | Franklin County | 0-6 | 0.255 |
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 1 Blountstown – BYE
No. 5 Sneads vs. No. 4 Liberty County
No. 6 Wewahitchka vs. No. 3 Madison County
No. 2 Port St. Joe – BYE
QUICK THOUGHTS: Blountstown continues to lead the way in the region, but the gap could close depending on how Port St. Joe and Madison County finish the next three weeks. Also, keep in mind a Blountstown victory over Baker this week could go a long way for the Tigers to keep a hold of the No. 1 seed for Region 2.
REGION 3
Rank | Team | Record | RPI |
1 | Chiefland | 7-0 | 0.676 |
2 | Union County | 7-0 | 0.665 |
3 | Hilliard | 7-0 | 0.657 |
4 | Lafayette | 5-2 | 0.582 |
5 | Fort White | 4-2 | 0.536 |
6 | Trenton | 3-4 | 0.478 |
7 | Dixie County | 3-4 | 0.474 |
8 | Branford | 3-4 | 0.455 |
9 | Bell | 3-5 | 0.398 |
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 1 Chiefland – BYE
No. 5 Fort White vs. No. 4 Lafayette
No. 6 Trenton vs. No. 3 Hilliard
No. 2 Union County – BYE
QUICK THOUGHTS: Hilliard last week was looking at as the No. 1 seed in the region, but with Chiefland and Union County having a better strength of schedule overall, both teams have leaped frog the Red Flashes, having Hilliard looking at hosting a regional quarterfinal game instead. It is not a long shot to say that at least two of the three teams in the Top 3 could finish the regular season undefeated in this region.
REGION 4
Rank | Team | Record | RPI |
1 | Hawthorne | 6-0 | 0.666 |
2 | Pahokee | 5-1 | 0.558 |
3 | Bradford | 3-4 | 0.540 |
4 | Newberry | 4-3 | 0.527 |
5 | Fort Meade | 4-3 | 0.500 |
6 | Wildwood | 3-3 | 0.488 |
7 | Bronson | 4-3 | 0.455 |
8 | Taylor (Pierson) | 2-4 | 0.363 |
9 | Williston | 0-7 | 0.335 |
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 1 Hawthorne – BYE
No. 5 Fort Meade vs. No. 4 Newberry
No. 6 Wildwood vs. No. 3 Bradford
No. 2 Pahokee- BYE
QUICK THOUGHTS: Hawthorne is continuing to find domination in the region and is likely looking at closing in on having the No. 1 overall seed in the region if things keep up. What is really interesting though is the fall of Wildwood who is now No. 6 in the region with Bronson knocking on the door for that last seed. Any further slip-ups from the Wildcats coupled with at least one or two more Bronson wins could have Wildwood out of playoff contention.
