Eight weeks are in the books for the 2021 Florida high school football season and the FHSAA has released their latest look at the RPI football playoff rankings as we head into Week 9 of the season.
As such this update provides the entire state a glimpse of what the potential playoff matchups could be looking like come the second week of November, but remember things change, as we still have three weeks worth of games (including this week) to go, however, the playoff picture is starting to become much more clearer with few games left.
In Classes 5A-8A, district record was taken into consideration except on certain exceptions which are noted.
For Class 4A, you will find a breakdown of RPI rankings for each team in every region and a projected seeding (including tiebreakers) based upon the guidelines as published by the FHSAA (click here to view), as well as quick thoughts about each region.
REGION 1
Rank | Team | Record | RPI |
1 | Bolles | 6-0 | 0.789 |
2 | South Walton | 6-1 | 0.691 |
3 | Baldwin | 4-2 | 0.573 |
4 | Andrew Jackson | 5-3 | 0.567 |
5 | Marianna | 4-4 | 0.559 |
6 | West Nassau | 3-3 | 0.498 |
7 | Bay | 2-5 | 0.481 |
8 | North Bay Haven | 3-4 | 0.457 |
9 | Rutherford | 2-5 | 0.449 |
10 | Gadsden County | 1-6 | 0.440 |
11 | Fernandina Beach | 2-6 | 0.418 |
12 | Wolfson | 2-5 | 0.384 |
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 1 Bolles – BYE
No. 5 Marianna vs. No. 4 Andrew Jackson
No. 6 West Nassau vs. No. 3 Baldwin
No. 2 South Walton – BYE
QUICK THOUGHTS: Bolles has become the clear-cut leader in the region and has likely locked down the No. 1 seed overall, barring any catastrophic losses in the next three weeks. However, what may be more interesting is the fact that Baldwin is head of Andrew Jackson in the RPI despite the fact that Andrew Jackson has a head-to-head victory over Baldwin. Things should change with three weeks of games left.
REGION 2
Rank | Team | Record | RPI |
1 | Cocoa | 5-1 | 0.757 |
2 | Keystone Heights | 7-0 | 0.696 |
3 | The Villages | 7-0 | 0.685 |
4 | Hernando | 4-3 | 0.550 |
5 | Umatilla | 4-3 | 0.522 |
6 | South Sumter | 5-3 | 0.520 |
7 | Astronaut | 1-5 | 0.407 |
8 | Space Coast | 1-6 | 0.352 |
9 | Santa Fe (Alachua) | 0-7 | 0.321 |
10 | Central (Brooksville) | 0-8 | 0.265 |
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 1 Cocoa – BYE
No. 5 Umatilla vs. No. 4 Hernando
No. 6 South Sumter vs. No. 3 The Villages
No. 2 Keystone Heights – BYE
QUICK THOUGHTS: Cocoa continues to dominate the region with one of the toughest schedules anywhere in the state, but what may be more stunning is Keystone Heights at No. 2 while The Villages at No. 3, which picked up a victory over South Sumter on Friday night. South Sumter now is on the edge of the playoff cut as the No. 6 seed this week in this region.
REGION 3
Rank | Team | Record | RPI |
1 | Lakewood | 8-0 | 0.736 |
2 | Clewiston | 4-1 | 0.629 |
3 | Lemon Bay | 6-0 | 0.611 |
4 | American Heritage (Delray) | 3-4 | 0.537 |
5 | Glades Central | 4-3 | 0.514 |
6 | Tenoroc | 3-2 | 0.459 |
7 | Somerset Canyons | 1-5 | 0.388 |
8 | Davenport | 2-4 | 0.363 |
9 | Parrish Community | 2-4 | 0.359 |
10 | Discovery | 1-6 | 0.319 |
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 1 Lakewood – BYE
No. 5 Glades Central vs. No. 4 American Heritage (Delray)
No. 6 Tenoroc vs. No. 3 Lemon Bay
No. 2 Clewiston – BYE
QUICK THOUGHTS: While not a whole lot has changed in this region, the biggest change is that American Heritage is now looking at possibly hosting a playoff game instead of hitting the road as the No. 4 seed while Glades Central is sitting there looking for some hope after some struggles during the midseason part of the schedule. It should be noted that it appears Lakewood has a considerable lock on getting the No. 1 overall seed in the region.
REGION 4
Rank | Team | Record | RPI |
1 | Gulliver Prep | 5-1 | 0.699 |
2 | Immaculata-LaSalle | 7-0 | 0.698 |
3 | Cardinal Gibbons | 5-2 | 0.674 |
4 | Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale) | 4-3 | 0.538 |
5 | Coral Springs Charter | 5-2 | 0.536 |
6 | Booker T. Washington (Miami) | 4-4 | 0.529 |
7 | Pine Crest | 3-3 | 0.514 |
8 | Monsignor Pace | 3-4 | 0.497 |
9 | Miami Carol City | 2-5 | 0.457 |
10 | North Broward Prep | 2-4 | 0.416 |
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 1 Gulliver Prep – BYE
No. 5 Coral Springs Charter vs. No. 4 Calvary Christian
No. 6 Booker T. Washington vs. No. 3 Cardinal Gibbons
No. 2 Immaculata-LaSalle – BYE
QUICK THOUGHTS: The defending Class 4A state champions have struggled the last few weeks, going 1-2 in that stretch with two losses to American Heritage (Plantation) and St. Thomas Aquinas and facing another tough opponent in Venice this weekend. As such they are looking at the No. 3 seed while Gulliver Prep and Immaculata-LaSalle hold the top two seeds. However, things could change with the remaining three weeks of games left.
