With high school football back in full swing around the state, the scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week Awards have returned for the 2023 season. Along with nominations from coaches and media and research from scoutSMART and FloridaHSFootball.com we will present to you five candidates for the scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week.
Due to Hurricane Idalia, we postponed voting for Week 1 candidates to this week. Voting is open to fans to help decide who should be the scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week for Week 1 now through Midnight on Thursday night, September 7. The winner will be announced on Friday by scoutSMART and FloridaHSFootball.com social media platforms on Friday, September 8, with a full profile on the winner presented on Monday, September 11.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week poll is intended to be fun, and without limits, and be supported with good sportsmanship. However, at anytime that is suspected that votes received for an athletes that are generated by any means outside of human voting will be disqualified from the poll.
THE NOMINEES
QB Noah Grubbs, So., Lake Mary – In the season opener against Dr. Phillips, Grubbs led his team to one of the highest scoring games in Florida history with a 76-60 shootout as Grubbs went 25-of-37 passing for 528 yards and 8 TDS.
DE Braylen Ricks, Sr., Yulee – Ricks racked up 9 tackles, 3 TFL and recorded 3 sacks for the Hornets in their 31-20 victory over Charlton County, Ga.
QB/ATH Dakota Brower, Oak Hall (Gainesville) – In their game against St. Joseph, Brower help led the Eagles to pitching a 43-0 shutout victory going 5-of-7 passing for 194 yards and 1 TD along with 4 carries for 36 yards. He was also 5-of-6 on PATs. Defensively Brower had 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 INTs including one returned for a TD.
RB/LB Damian Spencer, Anclote (Holiday) – Spencer racked up 150 yards rushing and 4 touchdown on just 6 carries while having 1 FF, 1 FR that was returned for a TD in the Sharks’ 44-6 victory over Bronson to open the season.
RB/ATH JT Bronaugh, Sr., Foundation Academy (Winter Garden) – Had 5 carries for 141 yards rushing and 2 TDS along with 1 catch for 45 yards receiving and a touchdown while helping the Lions to a 62-6 victory over Tenoroc. Bronaugh added 1 KOR for TD for 70 yards and amassed 256 AP yards in the victory.

Nomination form opens every week on Friday nights and will close at Noon Eastern Time on Monday’s. Make sure you have your statistician compile stats in a timely manner over the weekend to allow time to have your athlete nominated for scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week.
