VOTE: The Blitz – Panhandle Edition: 2025 Week 1 Football Player of the Week

Week 1 is officially in the books, and the Panhandle Region delivered some incredible performances to kick off the 2025 season. From game-changing plays to dominating stat lines, athletes all across the region made their mark on opening week.

After reviewing box scores and standout highlights, we narrowed the field down to 10 finalists for the very first The Blitz – Panhandle Football Player of the Week award. We also spotlighted a few more athletes who were strongly considered.

QB JD Brown, South Walton

Went 15 of 19 passing for 270 yards and four touchdowns in the Seahawks’ 35–6 win over Gulf Breeze.

RB TJ Davis, Bay

Rushed 25 times for 258 yards and a touchdown in a 42–6 victory over Arnold.

LB Ayden Dunnell, Taylor County

Registered 12 tackles, including one for loss, with a sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery in a 20–3 win over Fort White.

DL John Flynn, Tate

Finished with six tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks in the Aggies’ 21–7 win over Fort Walton Beach.

ILB Kyle Gilbert, Franklin County

Tallied 10 tackles, including four for loss, along with two sacks and a forced fumble in the Seahawks’ 31–0 win over Central (Milton).

QB JP Holsombake, Mosley

Completed 15 of 18 passes for 225 yards and five touchdowns in a 64–15 win over Rutherford.

QB Taylor Jacobs Jr., Lincoln

Threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score to lead the Trojans in a 36–29 win over Niceville.

WR Caden Jasso, Pensacola Catholic

Caught six passes for 126 yards and four touchdowns in a 42–27 win over Navarre.

QB Carter Nunes, Freeport

Completed 14 of 19 passes for 300 yards and five touchdowns in Freeport’s 54–13 win over North Bay Haven.

RB Jaymes Youngblood, Jay

Carried 23 times for 253 yards and three touchdowns in the Royals’ 40–0 victory over Lighthouse PCA.
