Week 1 is officially in the books, and the North Central Florida Region delivered some incredible performances to kick off the 2025 season. From game-changing plays to dominating stat lines, athletes all across the region made their mark on opening week.
After reviewing box scores and standout highlights, we narrowed the field down to 10 finalists for the very first The Blitz – Space & Treasure Coast Player of the Week award. We also spotlighted a few more athletes who were strongly considered.

QB Rico Buitrago, Holy Trinity
Completed 13 of 18 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns and added two rushing scores in a 28–14 win over Legacy.
QB Dylan Colontrelle, St. Edward’s
Completed 13 of 19 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns in a 49–21 win over Glades Day.
RB X’Zavier Corbin, Eau Gallie
Ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns and returned a kickoff 99 yards for a score in a 41–31 loss to Vero Beach.
LB Daiden Gilmore, Merritt Island Christian
Racked up 25 tackles with three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in a 44–8 win over Ocala Christian.
QB Edrick Hall, Melbourne
Completed 14 of 16 for 200 yards and two touchdowns and added 37 rushing yards and two more scores in a 58–7 win over Cocoa Beach.
QB Drew LaPlante, Fort Pierce Central
Went 8 of 12 for 192 yards and four touchdowns in a 48–13 win over Nova.
QB Eric Nelson, Viera
Threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 94 yards in a 22–21 win over Rockledge.
WR Connor O’Brien, St. Edward’s
Hauled in eight catches for 261 yards and three touchdowns and punted twice for 89 yards in a 49–21 win over Glades Day.
WR Nathaniel Owens, Heritage
Caught six passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 25–19 win over Titusville.
ATH Efrem White, Vero Beach
Threw for 74 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 84 yards and two scores in a 41–31 win over Eau Gallie.
