Week 2 is officially in the books, and the South Florida Region delivered more incredible performances here in the early stages of the 2025 season. From game-changing plays to dominating stat lines, athletes all across the region made their mark on opening week.
After reviewing box scores and standout highlights, we narrowed the field down to 10 finalists for the second The Blitz – South Florida Football Player of the Week award. We also spotlighted a few more athletes who were strongly considered.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – WEEK 1
QB Timothy Potts, Goleman
Congratulations to Goldeman QB Timtohy Potts on winning The Blitz – South Florida Player of the Week for Week 1! Potts went 26 of 41 for 358 yards and six touchdowns and added a rushing score in a 62–21 win over Key West.
WEEK 2 NOMINEES
RB Kamary Cooper, South Plantation
Exploded for 180 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries while adding 60 receiving yards in the Paladins’ 31–14 win over Coral Glades.
ATH Jemiyah Douglas, St. Thomas Aquinas
Electrified special teams with two punt return touchdowns (115 yards total), plus two tackles including one for loss in a 72–6 rout.
DE Trevoris Finley, Chaminade-Madonna
Anchored the defense with 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks in a 28–14 victory over McArthur.
DL Michael Harris, South Dade
Wrecked the edge with four sacks and four tackles for loss as the Buccaneers blanked Homestead, 31–0.
QB Florentino Lopez, Monarch
Delivered 242 passing yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score for 277 total yards in a 48–10 win over Deerfield Beach.
QB Pedro Martinez, Atlantic (Delray Beach)
Accounted for three total TDs with 173 yards passing, 46 yards rushing, and two ground scores in a 26–20 OT road win at Jonesboro (GA).
QB James Perrone, Miami Southridge
Surgical efficiency: 12-of-16 for 174 yards and three passing TDs, plus 40 rushing yards and two more scores in a 63–22 win over Goleman.
MLB Ethan Phillips, North Broward Prep
Dominated the trenches with seven tackles, five tackles for loss, and five sacks in a 31–14 win over Westminster Academy.
RB Kenan Powell, Miami Springs
Unstoppable with 296 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 14 carries, plus a passing TD, in a 52–14 victory over Southwest Miami.
RB Andrew Simmons, South Dade
Pounded Homestead with 160 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries in the 31–0 shutout.
