The 2026 Florida flag football season is just 11 days away, and South Florida brings an incredible 148 teams into the new season—nearly a third of the state’s entire flag football landscape. From Miami-Dade to Palm Beach County, the region is loaded with talent across all four classifications plus independents, including defending Class 1A state champion Miami Edison, defending Class 3A state champion Seminole Ridge, and perennial contenders across all classifications.
South Florida’s sheer depth makes it one of the most challenging regions in the state, with championship-caliber programs stacked throughout the rankings. Seminole Ridge leads the way, but the region features elite programs in every classification. Class 4A brings Wellington, Western, and Miami Palmetto into the top tier. Class 3A boasts Seminole Ridge, Homestead, and St. Thomas Aquinas. Class 2A is led by Dr. Joaquin Garcia, while defending Class 1A champion Miami Edison returns with championship expectations.
The competitive balance in South Florida is evident throughout the top 25, with multiple teams capable of making deep playoff runs and competing for state titles. Here’s a look at the top 25 teams heading into 2026, based on the Florida Power Rankings Index’s two-year historical blend.

ANALYSIS
Seminole Ridge (Westlake): Enters 2026 as South Florida’s highest-rated program at 87.00 and the defending Class 3A state champion. The Hawks return with championship expectations and are the clear Class 3A favorite in the region and one of the top contenders statewide.
Miami Edison: Sits second in the region at 85.14 as the defending Class 1A state champion. The Red Raiders return with championship expectations and are the clear Class 1A favorite in South Florida.
Class 4A Powerhouses: Wellington (#3, 81.06), Western (#4, 78.08), and Miami Palmetto (#6, 74.85) form an elite trio of Class 4A contenders at the top of the region. All three programs have the talent to compete for state titles, making South Florida’s Class 4A representation among the strongest in the state. Palm Beach Gardens (#10, 63.38) and Stoneman Douglas (#11, 62.74) add depth to the region’s 4A field.
Class 3A Depth: Beyond defending champion Seminole Ridge, South Florida boasts Homestead (#5, 77.29), St. Thomas Aquinas (#7, 70.80), Boyd Anderson (#9, 63.44), and Miami Southridge (#16, 53.26) in Class 3A. This group gives the region exceptional depth in the classification.
Class 2A Leaders: Dr. Joaquin Garcia (#12, 60.58) leads the Class 2A teams in South Florida, followed by Mater Lakes (#15, 57.21), Miami Northwestern (#18, 49.21), and Miami Norland (#19, 48.94). The 2A competition in the region is strong throughout.
Rising Programs: Somerset Canyons (#8, 68.69) enters as one of the top Class 1A programs statewide alongside defending champion Miami Edison. Posnack (#22, 46.37) also cracks the top 25 as a strong Class 1A contender.
The region’s depth extends well beyond the top 25, with competitive programs throughout all four classifications. South Florida will once again send multiple teams deep into the playoffs and remains a championship factory across the state.
