MIAMI — No. 13 Miami Palmetto wasted no time making a statement in its season opener, shutting out Sports Leadership & Management (SLAM) 41-0 Tuesday in Miami.
The Panthers (1-0), ranked 13th in the FLORIDA POWER 25, dominated from start to finish, holding SLAM (Miami) (0-1) scoreless while spreading the ball to multiple offensive weapons.
Sophia Rosado led Palmetto’s passing attack, completing 2-of-4 attempts for 41 yards and a touchdown. Emma Llorente added a touchdown through the air as well, completing her only attempt for 22 yards. Fernanda Moreno was efficient under center, completing 2-of-3 passes for 18 yards and a score, while also carrying the ball four times for 17 yards on the ground. Takayla Strowbridge rounded out the passing contributors with a completion for 9 yards.
Through the air, Kiani Graham hauled in four receptions for 38 yards and two touchdowns to lead all receivers. Samantha Hernandez caught one pass for 35 yards and a score, while Kylie Dixon added two receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown. Arianna Cruz found the end zone as well, pulling in one reception for 3 yards and a score. Kayla Luzzo-Ubeto and Giselle Felix each added two receptions, with Felix totaling 11 yards.
Defensively, Graham and Felix each recorded interceptions, with Graham returning hers 8 yards and Felix returning hers 5 yards. Graham, Strowbridge, Moreno and Hernandez each added a pass deflection as the Panthers held SLAM off the scoreboard throughout.
