FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Sophomore quarterback Kailee Grone threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a score as No. 9 Fort Pierce Central blanked Centennial (Port St. Lucie), 37-0, Tuesday evening in Fort Pierce.
Grone completed 8-of-16 passes for 147 yards and added 18 rushing yards on two carries to pace the Cobras (1-0) offensively. Junior Trisdeyana Adams came in relief and connected on 3-of-6 attempts for 38 yards and a touchdown, giving Central a balanced attack through the air. Adams also accounted for a touchdown on the ground from six yards out.
Erin Boyd was Grone’s primary target through the air, hauling in four receptions for 57 yards and two scores. Karla Timothy added two catches for 53 yards, including a 28-yard reception, while Naelah Breary chipped in with a 25-yard touchdown grab. Ayanna Roberston-Tommie contributed two catches for 23 yards and a score, and Madison Jackson pulled in a 3-yard touchdown reception.
The Cobras were equally stout on defense, forcing three interceptions along with recording three pass deflections and two quarterback hurries. Freshman Shawntravia Brown was a disruptive force off the edge with pressure on the quarterback multiple times. Breary recorded an interception she returned 20 yards, Adams added a pick that she returned 17 yards, and Timothy also made her presence felt on both sides of the ball with an interception as well.
Centennial (0-1) did not record a score.
