BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — Ava Wotipka threw for 171 yards and five touchdowns while also rushing for two more scores as No. 16 in the FLORIDA POWER 25 Somerset Canyons rolled to a 53-0 victory over Olympic Heights on Thursday.
Wotipka completed 13-of-19 passes for the Cougars (1-0), who opened their season with a dominant performance against the Lions (0-3). The junior quarterback also added 41 yards on the ground, finding the end zone twice on rushing attempts.
Bella Savastano, Faith Newton, Avery Wood and Kayla Vazquez each hauled in touchdown receptions for Somerset Canyons. Newton added a two-point conversion to finish with eight points on the night. Avery Demayo rounded out the scoring with a touchdown and a PAT.
The Somerset Canyons defense was equally impressive, forcing turnovers and limiting the Lions to no points. Aryana Ungliech and Demayo each recorded interceptions, with Ungliech returning hers 25 yards and Demayo picking up 20 yards on her return. Lilly Hall led the team with two pass deflections.
