TOP 10 ANALYSIS – AFTER WEEK 3
THE BIG PICTURE
The Space & Treasure Coast region looks different at the top heading into Week 4. Fort Pierce Central — the region’s No. 1 program for the first three weeks — drops to No. 4 after losing to South Florida’s Park Vista 14-13 on Thursday, their second loss of the season. South Fork moves into the top spot at 6-0 after going 2-0 on the week including a cross-region win over Palm Beach’s Cardinal Newman. Martin County stays at No. 2, also 6-0, after going 3-0 this week with two Saturday wins over Palm Beach-area programs. Jensen Beach moves up one spot to No. 3 at 5-0 after beating Vero Beach 19-0. John Carroll had the region’s busiest week, going 3-0 with wins over Centennial, West Shore, and Indian River Charter to climb to 6-2 and hold at No. 5. The biggest climbers are Viera — up six spots to No. 8 in their first season — and Space Coast, up three to No. 9 and also in their first year of play. Lincoln Park Academy and Vero Beach both dropped out of the top 10.
No. 1 South Fork — Bulldogs Are 6-0 and Claim the Top Spot With Two More Wins Including a Cross-Region Statement
South Fork moves to the top of the Space & Treasure Coast region at 6-0 after going 2-0 in Week 3. On Tuesday they beat Legacy 13-0 to extend their shutout streak before Thursday brought the week’s defining result — a 12-6 win over Cardinal Newman, a Palm Beach region program. South Fork had not been scored on all season before that game, and Cardinal Newman put six on the board — the first points allowed by the Bulldogs all year. They still won, and a road result against an out-of-region program gives their unbeaten record genuine cross-region credibility. South Fork has now scored 190 points and allowed just six across six games. Their SOS of 1.93 reflects competition that the system has not fully validated yet, but six wins including the Cardinal Newman result is a body of work that earned them the top spot.
No. 2 Martin County — Tigers Are 6-0 and Had the Region’s Most Active Week
Martin County went 3-0 this week to move to 6-0 — the region’s most active week of any top 10 program. On Tuesday they beat Lincoln Park Academy 27-0, extending what has been the most dominant defensive performance in the region. On Saturday they beat Suncoast 13-6 and Olympic Heights 22-0 in back-to-back games against Palm Beach-area programs. The Tigers have now scored 124 points and allowed just six across six games — their only blemish in the points-against column coming from the Suncoast game on Saturday. Martin County has beaten both regional opponents and out-of-region Palm Beach competition without losing. Their SOS of 0.84 is modest given the volume of games played, but the body of work — six wins, two out-of-region results, and only six points allowed all season — is the most complete resume in the region.
No. 3 Jensen Beach — Falcons Are 5-0 After Answering the Schedule Question Against Vero Beach
Jensen Beach entered Week 3 with the region’s most persistent question mark — a schedule strength figure that ranked near the bottom of all Florida programs. Thursday’s 19-0 shutout of Vero Beach began to address it. Vero Beach is a regional top 10 program that had beaten Centennial and held their own in their only loss, and Jensen Beach held them scoreless. The Falcons are now 5-0 with 139 points scored and just six allowed across five games. Their SOS of -3.28 still reflects competition that has not fully validated the record, but a shutout of the region’s 10th-ranked program is a more meaningful data point than anything else on their resume to this point. Jensen Beach has answered every question asked of them so far — the schedule will need to keep stepping up for the answers to carry more weight.
