Skinny: This is one game that most can count on being on the schedule each year and this year is no exception in the era of COVID-19. And for this year, this is a battle of the defending Class 1A State Champions versus last year’s Class 3A State Runner-up. As such, this game has even more meaning to both team other than just bragging rights. It is about a chance to see where both teams line up at in terms of hoping to get back to Gene Cox Stadium once again this season. The Cowboys are coming off a nice 32-14 victory at Suwannee last week after facing a tough battle from South Sumter the week before that they won by a close score of 18-13. The Cowboys so far have seen a reliable performance from quarterback Mitch Rutherford (2022) who has had to fill the shoe of the great Vinsonta Allen who was one of the biggest workhorses over the last few years. Defensively, Greg Mitchell (2021), Zarrion Robinson (2021), and Jeremy McKnight (2022) have been all key forces in leading the defense over the Cowboys’ first three games. For the host Seminoles, they finally got to open their season last week against P.K. Yonge of Gainesville for the battle of the Director’s Cup after their initial season opener at Taylor County was canceled by recommendation of the local Health Department. In that game last week against the Blue Wave, the Seminoles totally dominated winning the Directors Cup once again with a 57-0 win. Quarterback Tre Donaldson (2021) was nearly perfect going 11-for-12 passing for 159 yards and two touchdowns as the starter replacing the graduated Willie Taggart Jr. who was a key leader of the offense last year. Also, Dohntay Williams (2021) is another key guy to watch after rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown last week. Expect this game to be a tightly contested battle.
