  1. Last year the team did well until the STA game. Until then the games that were on the schedule were thought to be good tests. It just didn't turn out that way.

Lakeland in the spring game 14-13 loss

Plant in the KOC win 38-25

Camden County turned out to be a dud

Manatee who typically is good win 42-7

Braden River 1st time win 42-35

Braden River 2nd time win 64-42

The toughest part of our schdeule was and still is the weak district we have to play. Team like Palmetto who was pretty good has not made the playoffs because of Braden River and Venice. We are not and will not be on the level of STA and the likes of IMG. Its just not going to happen. Do we have good players sure, but we don't fill out a team of monsters or athletes that will wow anyone.

Long story short is why not try to schedule opponents who are like the team you need to try to compete with. Do we match up well with IMG, NO. We didn't match up well with STA but tried to take a good positive attitude into that game. Just didn't work out on our end.

Looks like coach is trying to schedule teams that would help prepare the team. Booker T Washington game couldn't happen. In that game it would be the same.

Continue to do the same things and expect the same results.

Every team in Manatee County usually plays very well during the year until they play STA.

STA is an elite team with very good athletes year in and year out.

Manatee got lucky one year at home with a solid defense that helped them take down the beast.

If there were five more minutes on the clock, that game might have turned out different as STA just ran out of time.

Look at the other five times Manatee played STA.

Loses and most of them significant loses other than the 2OT loss down in FTL which was the result of CJK's terrible late play calling.

It's very hard to compete with the level of talent those schools have in the area especially STA.

Not a chance Venice will ever beat STA IMHO.

  2. Why does fhsaa even need img

Let them be seperate organization that has a building in Florida and does what it wants while the normal Florida schools play our way lol

I agree but here's my thoughts.

The high school football scene appears to be changing.

I envision the sport becoming like basketball and states starting teams like AAU basketball does.

I'm sure you would get sponsors to fit some of the travel bill and  this would put better talent against better talent in prep for college level play.

  3. you think another down year for Manatee and Booth will be out? I think he's too liked by the administration and all around the school, idk if they'll ever get rid of him or not, I think Manatee is just good on making the playoffs know, 1 or 2 rounds deep is good enough for them, the atmosphere at the games isn't even like it used to be, seems like nobody really cares about making deep playoff runs anymore

What do you consider a down year? Not making the playoffs or not making it past round 1,2, etc.

I agree that Booth is well liked by the admin and those around to be fired after another year.

Now if we (Manatee) miss the playoffs this year, he gets fired.

Booster are growing tired after the past success we had.

Too much talent here to miss playoffs or only get to second round.

  4. I can see 3-4 losses and 1 early in the playoffs and Booth gets canned.

The players aren't responding to him, and they went from national power to irrelevant in their own classification overnight.

I agree. Losses will be Armwood, Lakeland, BR, and Venice.

It's sad to see what has become of Manatee.

Booth can't evaluate talent like a head coach should be able to.

  5. Do you think Dwyer started the fight just to try and get STA in trouble since they knew they had no shot on the field so decided to try and get them DQ from playoffs?

LOL must be a slow day for news outside of football.

Come on, you really think that or are you just stirring?

No team goes into a game like that thinking they have no chance to win and therefore searching for alternative ways to move on.

At the end of the day, these kids have to line up and beat the other side.

Let's not forget many big upsets which is why they play the game.

But to think they tried to get STA DQ'd, come on man!

  6. Yes has to be soon.

If the FHSAA has a hard time telling who did what, again I could see STA getting DQed out of this and Dwyer getting slapped with a postseason ban for 2017. It would be the only fair solution, to be honest, to penalize both since its hard telling on the current videos who was the aggressor, who participated and so forth.

Not a chance. No way STA gets DQ'd for that.

I could see more of the coach being suspended for a game but nothing will happen in full to either team.

  7. Man I feel for these kids.

Three games in and Booth and staff seem to have lost this team.

Not good for the future of Hurricane football unless some changes are made.

Def Cord needs to be "let go" to put it nicely.

Booth needs to figure out some type of offensive scheme that "works" and these kids can run.

Seem to me like he's attempting to get away from that Manatee football spread/option offense that the kids grew up running all the way back to when many of them were freshman.

As those athletes coached by Kinnan and crew graduate, I think we will see the lack of ability by this staff.

No reason to only score 14 points in two games with all that talent on the field.

I won't even mention the points against, smh.

  8. Manatee is broken right now. Plain to see they need a motivator in the locker room and a Coach on the sidelines...

What happened to that proud program. Looks like the FHSAA got their hooks into them like they did Lakeland several years back. Once that happens, the whole program changes for a long time.

Armwood is just now getting the program back after 4 or 5 years since the FHSAA got them.

How did the FHSAA get Manatee?

    I'm not sure I follow....

  9. My question is, how do you not make the changes to stop the scoring at will?

There's comes a time when you start putting some fresh feet in that game and ask someone anyone to make a play!

The secondary is terrible and always has been a weak area for Manatee teams.

No reason to give up over 600 yards of offense.

  10. as a manatee alum, this is a disgrace. no reason to ever score 50+ and loose. how do you give up 70+?!!!? I don't even know what to say. who said after last week they liked like they were in mid season form? the defense is terribly coached and someone needs to be fired.

  11. So is that Sebring's fault?

What do you expect Sebring to do not play their starters or play their starters for 2 series???  Let's penalize and hold back the starters and talented players by not allowing them much playing time and our JV team will get better.  Great way to practice your sets and formations for the regular season....

No one is forcing weak teams to play Sebring, yet teams continue to...even with the Sebring history of running scores up?  Perhaps Lake Placid and other weak teams played them to get there buts handed to them early on.  Coaching move?  Why would a team of that caliber play a first round  6A type playoff team?  What did they think was going to happen - even in a scrimmage?

    I agree with you.

If it's that bad of an issue, don't schedule Sebring or line up and stop them!

  12. AJ had been fully cleared to play. If there was a significant concern they would not have played him. They tested him and he had no issues. If he was gimpy at any point they would have pulled him. It's a moot point because he is fine and he played very well.

Tarique Milton would do just fine at the QB position if he had to play there. He can throw the ball. The more he runs the offense the better he would execute it. Thankfully Manatee will get to utilize his talent on the outside because they have a talented QB in Colagiovanni. This football team has the potential to win the whole thing. It's going to be a very difficult task, but they have the pieces to do it. Having a tough schedule will have them prepared to face the difficult 8A playoffs.

If that was the case with AJ, why didn't Booth start him?

I've never heard of a coach not starting their #1 guy(with a previous injury) if he's the best guy to get the win.

It's over now but just didn't make sense to me.

I just hope he gets away from that stupid wild cat stuff.

Line up and run your offense and they should do just fine.

As for winning it all, I don't see it happening this year.

  13. I don't know if it's time to panic this early but Manatee took it to them and caught Armwood by surprise doing it, Armwood is got to get a lot and I mean a lot better if they want to even make it back to Orlando this year because that team tonight was anything but impressive outside of their junior QB Devin Black, very mobile QB that was keeping drives alive with his legs and his arm

I wouldn't say they weere "that" bad.

A few costly turnovers(which didn't happen until late third) cost them the game.

The tide turned when that ball was snapped over Black's head.

Armwood will be just fine this year and I would expect them to make a trip to Orlando again.

Manatee needs to feed their play makers on offense.

No reason Booker shoudn't get 20+ carries.

I'm most happy that AJ's foot seems to be healed and he should be ready to let loose this week.

Was very shocked that when Booth said he wanted to give AJ a few series and played him the entire game(for the most part) with the chance of that foot injury.

Only time will tell as to how long AJ can lead this team but I hope he can finish the season.

If not, going to be a short season for this team with no real back-up.

  14. Well after watching the game via the link, heres my thoughts...

I was very impressed by Manatee, they looked in midseason form and executed well on both sides of the ball, ST could use a little work though.

Offensively I was very impressed by the QB Colagiovanni, he was accurate and made good decisions and has that added dimension of mobility to his game, I imagine his height (listed as 5'10", maybe less in reality) costs him a lot of offers he might otherwise get. The WR core is deep with 4 guys who are very athletic and sure handed. The RB was also impressive, big physical dude who is very athletic for his size. The OL is a little undersized and has room for improvement, especially in pass protection but the QBs quick release helps alleviate that.

Defensively they are very young returning only 2 starters from last year yet still performed well. They bent a lot but rarely broke and routinely stepped up when they needed to most. The DL consistently got pressure on Armwood's QB all night and the back 7 was solid vs a loaded Armwood receiving core. To think that they had only 2 returning starters is crazy and with the inexperience they should only get better and better as the season goes on.

I was not high on Manatee coming into this season but after watching them vs an elite opponent I change my mind. They don't have any blue chip studs like those past Kinnan teams and not even that many FBS offered guys for that matter, but what they do have is a lot of really good FCS/D2/D3 level hsfb players all over the field, in addition a lot of their players are young so they should continue to improve throughout the season.

I wasn't expecting much from them before but now I definitely believe they will be a player in 8A north

As for Armwood all I can say is sloppy! sloppy! sloppy! While Manatee looked sharp and in midseason form, Armwood was obvious they were playing their first game of the season.

Penalties absolutely killed them, too many to count. They showed their explosive potential offensively and were able to move the ball but drives always ended up getting killed by penalties or mistakes like bad snaps. The QB Black was a bright spot for them, very impressive. Was under duress the whole game yet was very elusive and only sacked once or twice I think, consistently made plays with both his legs and arm while under pressure. The OL is big but not terribly athletic, penalties aside they were the root of Armwood's failure to find a rhythm offensively

Defensively penalties were a problem as well, and there were too many busted coverages including one that resulted in Manatee's first TD (granted Im pretty sure they were playing without a USF committed safety who was out with an injury)

Sloppy game overall however its the first game and was still a close game to a good opponent despite all the self inflicted issues. They will improve as the season goes on and come playoff time they should roll through 6A north towards Miami Central again.

I agree with you on some of your points.

    Armwood was sloppy, very sloppy.

Manatee will struggle should that foot injury(which it seemed fine on Friday) for AJ flairs up.

That wild cat stuff doesn't work and why Booth played AJ just blows my mind.

Traveling out of state this week and I would have hated to see AL not be able to play.

With all that being said, Manatee still has some work to do in my eyes.

Still have trouble containging a mobile QB and can't seem to defend that deep ball in late downs.

With the best RB in the county, they need to feed Booker the ball 20+ times and run some screens plays to the ball in his and Tarique's hands.

  15. yea I new them having tailgates this year had to be something new because I didn't remember that any other year. But it should be a really good game and don't know how much of a chance Manatee has without AJ if he doesn't go because Milton will be playing a lot of wildcat QB and they really need him to stretch the defense of Armwood out on the outside

Going to be a short season if Booth thinks he can get away with a one trick pony offense.

    That's what happened against Apopka.

Shouldn't have to run that much with the kid from Booker carrying the ball.

  16. Like Miami Northwestern is good... Norland is good .... Carol City is good... Sucks they all in the same districts but all those schools have players.... But MC has the better structure right now... I believe if coaches were making good money down here we would have more ELITE teams out here ....

I would take a majority of Miami/Dade schools over much of the rest in our state.

    Miami breeds athletes down there.

  17. I didn't know u were in the bradenton area man, I'll be their as well and early, they're having a tailgate from 5:30 to 7 somewhere on school property

Yeah, been here for a long time.

New thing this year with having tailgates every home game.

Should be a good game but still not sold on my old classmate righting this ship.

    Only time will tell.

  18. I notice that the people on rivals and national board are taking it the wrong way, they do realize their no limit to how many boards people can join right?

If you're not worried about your competition, you loose focus of why you're here.

Everyone wants to be the best. Do what you do best and everything else will fall into place like your boy said, "it's Gucci."

    I assume that's a good thing in today's language.
