DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. Carrollwood Day – The Patriots had their best season ever last year and have picked up a few transfer students since who will help contribute nicely. However, gone is running back Robert Davis, who was one of the top rushers in the state of Florida last year. Despite this, the Patriots seem to be the heavy favorite to win the district again this season.
Fighting It Out:
2. Canterbury – Things look promising for this squad that has a quite a bit of the team returning including the entire offensive line, which will be a a key to scoring points on the board. If the Crusaders can keep up the pace they started with in spring football, things could very easily go their way and allowing them to make the playoffs since the first time it went in 2011.
3. Indian Rocks Christian – The Golden Eagles will return some of the talent from its district runner-up squad from last season and will be one of the teams in the mix again to get back in the playoffs. Spring Football was rough for the team, but like preseason games, spring doesn’t count and is only a task to allow coaches to see where improvement is needed.
4. Bradenton Christian – The Panthers should be much improved this season after surrending over 30 points a game last season on average despite the four wins. Most of the players from last year’s squad is back and this should provide a big boost to put Bradenton Christian back in playoff contention for the first time in school history.
Got Work To Do:
5. Cambridge – The Lancers have lost two of the biggest rushers from last season and could be the big difference maker in how many wins can be earned this season. While Garrett Young does return at quarterback, he will need to be at his best along with his receivers to help put Cambridge in the spotlight and maybe play darkhorse within the district.
6. Northside Christian – Mike Alstott’s first season couldn’t have been rougher than dropping all the games last season, but their is always growing pains when becoming a head coach for the first time. However, expect the Mustangs to improve and get some wins on the board this season under Alstott’s second season.
7. Keswick Christian – The only head coach in school history, Rick Swanson was let go during the offseason and Blake Englehardt who was a record setting quarterback for the school took the job. Now rebuilding efforts are in order and things will take time to make a turn around for the St. Petersburg-based school.
