DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. Madison County – A lot of players graduated from the Cowboys squad, but there is never ever a lack or depth for Coach Mike Coe’s team. There is no really big names that stand out this unlike Ira Denson, who has since graduated. Even though the team is young, expect the Cowboys to be an early favorite to possibly make their third trip in a row to the state finals this season.
Fighting It Out:
2. Taylor County – The Bulldogs are working harder to get stronger and better on the field this season after head coach Ryan Smith’s first season at the helm of the program. During the off season a huge boost was given to receiving corps when Ladarian Smiley transferred in from Jefferson County. Adding Smiley alongside to Moral Stephens will give the Bulldogs two threats this seasons allowing for some interesting matchups against their opponents. Don’t take the Dawgs lightly.
3. Fort White – The Indians have been in the playoffs the last two seasons, by default of being in a two team district. However, now the work has to be done to make the playoffs and it won’t be easy as state power Madison County and Taylor County join in the district with them. Fort White, does have some talent on both sides of the ball, but will be enough to get a playoff spot this year?
Got Work To Do:
4. Fernandina Beach – The Pirates slipped a bit last season and went from a 4-6 season in 2011 to 2-8 in 2012. Now add in the fact the Pirates are a in a district where their nearest district opponent is over 125 miles away (Fort White). The Pirates will be a year older on the roster, but with the teams located in the district does not help matters for the Pirates to make the playoffs at all this season.
