QUICK HITS
Trinity Christian: The Conquerors went to a tie last week in the first half of varsity play against Columbia and the JV finished out for a small win. Now the goal is to focus on the task at hand and that is to win the games they are suppose to win and forget about 2012 when the playoff chase went up in a cloud of smoke. With tons of talent a state championship run is very likely.
St. Augustine: The Yellow Jackets had another undefeated regular season under head coach Joey Wiles, but a run deep into the playoffs came to a quick halt on the second round by a more dominate team and it might have been the start of a slide down somewhat. Last week St. Augustine fell to Seabreeze in its kickoff classic which is rare to see from a St. Augustine team. So there is some work to do bounce back and be ready to face the load of nationally rank players Trinity Christian brings with them on Friday.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
171-37 – The win-loss record of Joey Wiles’ to date at St. Augustine.
1 – The number of coaches that has guided Trinity Christian to all of its playoff berth and state championship game appearances. That coach would be Verlon Dorminey.
4 – The number of Trinity Christian players ranked across the ESPN 300 lists between the 2014 and 2015 classes.
THE RANKINGS
Trinity Christian is ranked #2 in the Class 3A Super 6. St. Augustine is ranked #9 in the Class 6A Super 12. Trinity Christian is ranked #9 in the Florida HS Football Media Poll – Small Schools Division while St. Augustine received votes in the Large Schools Division section of the poll.
WHAT COULD HAPPEN
This is one of St. Augustine’s youngest teams in a long time and it could be the big factor into how this game goes for them. With Trinity Christian bringing in a stock of talented players, many as over a half dozen that could sign with FBS schools, this game could prove to be a win for the Conquerors. Overall, St. Augustine fans will need to be ready for a rocky ride this season with their beloved team.
ADVANTAGE: Trinity Christian
