Sunshine State 25 Rankings after Week 1

Here are the updated Sunshine State 25 Rankings after Week 1. Remember Sunshine 25 rankings rank the best teams regardless of classification. Independent teams are not eligible for the Sunshine State 25 rankings.

1. St. Thomas Aquinas, 1-0, 2
Comment: Easily handled an undersized 4A Booker T. Washington team on national television.

2. Flanagan, 1-0, 3
Comment: Won season opener in convincing fashion over 8A Douglas.

3. Mainland, 1-0, 4
Comment; Flew past 8A DeLand to start off season on a high note. Jumps up to No. 1 after Miami Central’s poor showing against DeMatha.

4. American Heritage (Plantation), 1-0, 8
Comment: Strong showing against Stephenson, GA riding on momentum from win against IMG Academy in kickoff classic.

5. Miami Central, 0-1, 1
Comment: Had a poor showing against DeMatha Catholic, MD but will get a chance to rebound against 8A Miami Killian this week.

6. Trinity Christian (Jacksonville), 1-0, 5
Comment: Easily dispatched 3A Trinity Catholic in the season opener. Just outside the top five this week.

7. Apopka, 1-0, 9
Comment: No surprise in the drubbing of 7A Ocoee to start the season.

8. Osceola (Kissimmee), 1-0, 10
Comment: Only gave up 10 points to 7A Bartow that reached the playoffs last season.

9. Columbus, 1-0, 11
Comment: Might have taken 48-hours to finish the game against 5A Miami Jackson, but Explorers off to good start.

10. Oakleaf, 1-0, 12
Comment: Not the most impressive win, but it was a shutout over 5A Westside.

11. Dr. Phillips, 1-0, 13
Comment: Blanked 8A Wekiva to start off the season on the right note.

12. Armwood, 1-0, 15
Comment: Hawks easily knocked out 7A Plant City to earn first win of the season.

13. Lakeland, 1-0, 16
Comment: Dreadnaughts easily handle 6A Ed White at home.

14. Cocoa, 1-0, 6
Comment: Easily defeated 5A Palm Bay in first meeting since 2008, but it was not enough to keep them in the Top 10 compared to other teams.

15. Niceville, 1-0, 17
Comment: Defeated 7A Lincoln with powerful running game.

16. American Heritage (Delray), 1-0, 18
Comment: Pulled out a very close road win over 6A Naples.

17. Dwyer, 1-0, 19
Comment: Blew out 6A Boynton Beach to open the season.

18. Heritage, 1-0, 24
Comment: Took care of business against 5A Merritt Island to start of the season on the right note.

19. North Marion, 1-0, 23
Comment: Took furthest trip south for a regular season game and defeated a very tough 7A Blanche Ely.

20. West Orange, 1-0, NR
Comment: No shock value to winning against 2A Foundation Academy to open the season.

21. Manatee, 0-1, 14
Comment: Rough start for the Hurricanes at Hoover, Alabama. Needs to rebound this week against rival 7A Palmetto.

22. Bishop Moore, 1-0, 25
Comment: Easily defeated nearby neighbor 7A Edgewater in the “Battle of College Park.”

23. Naples, 0-1, 21
Comment: Lost to a tough 3A Delray American Heritage team at home to open the season.

24. Hallandale, 1-0, NR
Comment: Got a good win against a strong Cedar Grove, GA team on the road.

25. Navarre, 2-0, NR
Comment: Has started the season strong by a scoring at least 40 points in their first two games behind a strong rushing attack from Michael Carter.

Dropped Out: No. 7 Booker T. Washington; No. 20 Wakulla; No. 22 Lake Gibson
