Plantation sees championship winning head coach step down

After 20-plus years of coaching, Plantation head coach Steve Davis is hanging up the whistle – for now. The news was first broke by twitter account @SleeperAthletes and later confirmed by several sources including Pat Lammer at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and the Miami Herald.

According to Manny Navarro at the Miami Herald reports that Davis, who is 46-years-old, is taking the upcoming season off, but has not ruled out coaching once again.

In the report, Davis said that he has been coaching since 1994 when he came out of college and he is not sure if he is ready to retire from coaching for good, but wanted to take some time off.

Davis, steps down with a  121-64 record, according to Navarro and won a state championship in 2002 as the head coach at Blanche Ely. Plantation finished the 2015 season with an 8-3 record as the district runner-up in District 8A-12.

It is unclear when Plantation might have a new head coach in place to lead the team for the 2016 season, but Davis posted this note thanking everyone for the support over the last 11 seasons:
