GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The FHSAA announced Thursday morning that the 2018 FHSAA Flag Football and FHSAA Lacrosse State Championships will be hosted at Boca Raton High from Thursday, May 10 through Saturday, May 12 with the official host being the Palm Beach County School District.
The Lacrosse State Championships will spread out over all three days at Boca Raton High while all the entirety of the Flag Football State Championships will be played out on the final day of the three days, Saturday, May 12.
The selection of Boca Raton High for the Girls Flag Football state championships returns it to South Florida for the first time since the school hosted the state championships from 2009 until 2011.
Since then the state champions have been in various parts in the state with Gene Cox hosting them in 2012 through 2015 with the exception of 2013 when it was hosted at Osceola High School in Kissimmee due to lack of hotel rooms with Florida State University’s graduation scheduled the same weekend. In 2016 the state championships were hosted at Robinson High School in Tampa while the 2017 state championships were hosted at Citizens Field in Gainesville.
As for Lacrosse, this will be the first time that Boca Raton High will host the state championships in that sport. They have been hosted the last two years at Jupiter High School in the northern part of Palm Beach County.
Last month, Florida Lacrosse News indicated this move to combine the championships site for Flag Football and Lacrosse might have been a move made by the FHSAA to boost attendance, but also reduce overall costs, especially for participating teams.
“We are excited to bring two of the fastest-growing sports in America to Palm Beach County,” FHSAA Executive Director George Tomyn said in the press release. “Boca Raton was a great host for flag football from 2009-11 and I know they’ll do a fantastic job hosting lacrosse for the first time.”
Boca Raton High is located at the Exit 45 interchange of Interstate 95 and Glades Road in Palm Beach County, making access very convenient for all teams that will participate in the state championships in both sports. Bobcat Stadium has field turf for its surface, allowing the school to be able to host all the games for both sports without compromising the surface.
Tickets will go on sale in advance near the date fo the state championships with an $8 all-day pass being available on GoFan, the FHSAA’s exclusive digital ticket provider. Tickets will be $11 (cash only) at the gate on each day of the event.
