Skinny: When two Class 1A rural teams meet up, usually it sets up for some of the best football you can see in the Sunshine State. That should be the case here when the Gators and Hornets meet up on Friday night. For Coach Johns, who has been a successful head coach at many stop around the state has been working to bring Wewahithcka to the level of being on equal footing and this year could be that year that Wewahitchka closes that gap. That is thanks to some young talent that has worked their way up on the field and making a name for themselves. The biggest player to keep an eye on is Williams (1,032 yards rushing, 16 TDs in 2019) primarily as a wildcat-type quarterback. It is expected that he will produce even bigger numbers as a key component in the Gators’ offense. McDaniel (690 yards, 6 TDs in 2019) will also be a key part of things at running back and is also expected to do big things as a freshman. For the Hornets, they are looking to keep working at things to get the Hornets back into the mix of being in the top half of the top Class 1A teams. That will start with running back St. Fleur taking over and being the workhorse for the Hornets behind an offensive line that is coming back with a year of experience under their belt. Overall, expect a four-quarter game that will come down to whoever has the ball last.
