Skinny: This will be the fourth meeting between the two powerhouse programs in Jacksonville over the last four years. This is after going many years without even having a series scheduled, even in years when both teams were winning state championships. However, with the things that have gone with COVID-19, scheduling tightened up for both teams and as such open the door to get the game back on the schedule. Both teams participated in kickoff classic openers last week in hopes to shake the rust off but this week, things are going to count officially on the record. The visiting Bulldogs enter this season coming off a crushing defeat in the Class 4A State Championship while the host Conquerors are looking to rebound from a disappointing season that saw them exit out of the first round of the playoffs, which game after having one of the toughest schedules for any team in the state. Both teams lost some quality players but have plenty of returners and newcomers that are expected to stand out. Some of these athletes for Bolles include All-State RB Kade Frew (2022) (953 yards rushing, 10 TDs), All-State WR Davis Ellis (2021) (46 receptions, 673 yards, 7 touchdowns), All-State OL Cam Neal (2021), All-State LB Caden Fordham (2021) (93 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 INTs, 2 FR, 2 FF, 1 blocked punt in 2019), DL Hayden Schwartz (2022), and LB Mack Maronne (2021). For Trinity Christian, the loss of RB Kyjuan Herndon due to graduation is a huge loss, but guys like Treyaun Webb (2023) and Darnell Rodgers (2024) are the future stars for the Conquerors running game. Both scored a touchdown each in last week’s kickoff classic at Buchholz in Gainesville. Other key guys that will be critical to watch include All-State WR Marcus Burke (2021) (37 receptions, 831 yards, 9 TDs in 2019), All-State OL Austin Barber (2021), All-State LB C.J. Ross (2021), and All-State DB Chris Coley (2021) (38 tackles, 1 INT, 5 pass breakups in 2019).
