Four weeks are in the books for the 2021 Florida high school football season and the FHSAA has released their first look at the RPI rankings as we head into Week 5 of the season

As such this update provides the entire state a glimpse of what the potential playoff matchups could be looking like come the second week of November, but remember things change, as we still have seven weeks worth of games (including this week) to go and this is just a very early glimpse at things.

In Classes 5A-8A, district record was taken into consideration except on certain exceptions which are noted.

For Class 6A, you will find a breakdown of RPI rankings for each team in every region and a projected seeding (including tiebreakers) based upon the guidelines as published by the FHSAA (click here to view), as well as quick thoughts about each region.

REGION 1

Rank School RPI OWP OOWP
1 Gulf Breeze 0.75208 0.50000 0.75694
2 Riverside 0.75104 0.58333 0.65625
3 Mosley 0.67604 0.41667 0.60069
4 Columbia 0.65573 0.58333 0.63021
5 St. Augustine 0.62778 0.88889 0.27778
6 Rickards 0.61771 0.50000 0.60069
7 Choctawhatchee 0.61458 0.45833 0.63889
8 Gainesville 0.60000 0.45833 0.59028
9 Lincoln 0.59063 0.75000 0.51042
10 Milton 0.57708 0.79167 0.41667
11 Middleburg 0.49792 0.12500 0.63889
12 Booker T. Washington (Pensacola) 0.49028 0.38889 0.40278
13 Orange Park 0.47135 0.62500 0.55035
14 Pine Forest 0.43542 0.50000 0.28472
15 Westside 0.43021 0.54167 0.51042
16 Englewood 0.42292 0.62500 0.38889
17 Escambia 0.41389 0.41667 0.50463
18 Fort Walton Beach 0.36458 0.70833 0.38889
19 Ridgeview 0.36389 0.38889 0.37037
20 Matanzas 0.34583 0.41667 0.37500

PROJECTED DISTRICT CHAMPS
This is based on current district standings and taking the highest-rated team among the district standings if they have won district games. Should a district not have any district games played as of yet, the highest-rated team will be mythically slotted in as a district champion for projection purposes only.

6A-1: Gulf Breeze – No. 1
6A-2: Mosley – No. 3
6A-3: Riverside – No. 2
6A-4: St. Augustine – No. 4

PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS

No. 8 Gainesville vs. No. 1 Gulf Breeze
No. 5 Columbia vs. No. 4 St. Augustine
No. 6 Rickards vs. No. 3 Mosley
No. 7 Choctawhatchee vs. No. 2 Riverside

QUICK THOUGHTS: A lot of solid teams here in this first ranking for the region and the projections will provide some pretty good games if they came to pass. However, with seven weeks of football left, there is a lot that is going to change – and will change in that time stretch as we work our way to November.

REGION 2

Rank School RPI OWP OOWP
1 Auburndale 0.77222 0.61111 0.69444
2 Vanguard 0.70000 0.50000 0.58333
3 Jones 0.63229 0.83333 0.55208
4 New Smyrna Beach 0.58958 0.41667 0.60417
5 Belleview 0.56354 0.33333 0.61458
6 Eau Gallie 0.55729 0.75000 0.39931
7 Lake Wales 0.54722 0.44444 0.52778
8 Springstead 0.53958 0.25000 0.63194
9 Heritage (Palm Bay) 0.51944 0.83333 0.37037
10 Mainland 0.48472 0.72222 0.38426
11 Port St. Lucie 0.45222 0.16667 0.53519
12 Suncoast 0.45000 1.00000 0.33333
13 Lecanto 0.39583 0.58333 0.34722
14 South Lake 0.38889 0.77778 0.38889
15 Pasco 0.38611 0.72222 0.44444
16 Lake Minneola 0.37708 0.08333 0.57639
17 Gateway (Kissimmee) 0.29722 0.11111 0.47222
18 South Fork 0.22500 0.41667 0.26389
19 Okeechobee 0.20417 0.25000 0.38889

PROJECTED DISTRICT CHAMPS
This is based on current district standings and taking the highest-rated team among the district standings if they have won district games. Should a district not have any district games played as of yet, the highest-rated team will be mythically slotted in as a district champion for projection purposes only.

6A-5: Belleview – No. 3
6A-6: Jones – No. 2
6A-7: Auburndale – No. 1
6A-8: Port St. Lucie – No. 4

PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS

No. 8 Springstead vs. No. 1 Auburndale
No. 5 Vanguard vs. No. 4 Port St. Lucie
No. 6 New Smyrna Beach vs. No. 3 Belleview
No. 7 Eau Gallie vs. No. 2 Jones

QUICK THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting projection given the rankings here. With a lot of football left, there is going to be a lot of changes in this region and we expect those changes to come sooner rather than later as we progress. Just seems strange though to be projecting Belleview over Vanguard as a district champ, but until Vanguard gets a district game in, this is where it will stand.

REGION 3

Rank School RPI OWP OOWP
1 Jesuit 0.76667 0.58333 0.70833
2 Pinellas Park 0.74167 0.62500 0.57639

7 Sumner 0.50000 0.25000 0.50000
8 Seminole (Seminole) 0.45833 0.41667 0.45833
9 Countryside 0.44792 0.37500 0.47222
10 Freedom 0.40625 0.58333 0.38194
11 Sunlake 0.39583 0.45833 0.49306
12 Southeast 0.36389 0.33333 0.43519

15 Fivay 0.33854 0.41667 0.35069
16 River Ridge 0.33854 0.50000 0.25347
17 Brandon 0.32708 0.66667 0.31250
18 St. Petersburg 0.31111 0.61111 0.32407
19 Hollins 0.30833 0.58333 0.34722
20 Spoto 0.24167 0.33333 0.41667
21 King 0.20625 0.25000 0.39583

PROJECTED DISTRICT CHAMPS

Should a district not have any district games played as of yet, the highest-rated team will be mythically slotted in as a district champion for projection purposes only.

6A-9: Countryside – No. 4
6A-10: Jesuit – No. 1
6A-11: Pinellas Park – No. 2
6A-12: Braden River – No. 3

PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS

No. 8 Sumner vs. No. 1 Jesuit
No. 5 Northeast vs. No. 4 Countryside
No. 6 Hillsborough vs. No. 3 Braden River
No. 7 Boca Ciega vs. No. 2 Pinellas Park

QUICK THOUGHTS: The teams being projected out as potential district champions seem to be on point currently early at this point with the rankings. Even the teams projected as the at-large teams are pretty solid teams so far this season and are looking to make some noise of their own.

REGION 4

Rank School RPI OWP OOWP
1 Dunbar (Fort Myers) 0.81250 0.72222 0.69907

No. 8 Golden Gate vs. No. 1 Dunbar
No. 5 South Fort Myers vs. No. 4 Coconut Creek
No. 6 Fort Myers vs. No. 3 Miami Northwestern
No. 7 Charlotte vs. No. 2 Naples

QUICK THOUGHTS: No shocks here looking at the teams projected as district champions at this particular point. They are all doing well and showing that they belong in this conversation in the ratings. Even three of the four teams projected as at-large berths at this point are not surprising either. However, buckle up as we still got a lot of football left to play!
