A program that was once rising and was just 7-3 two seasons ago has now hired their third head coach heading in to the 2016 season.
The Daily Commercial in Leesburg reports that Scott Armatti, a longtime assistant coach in Lake County, has been hired to replace David LaMarre after stepping down in his only season at the school.
Armatti who has been an assistant coach before at Tavares, East Ridge and most recently at South Lake, told Daily Commercial’s Frank Jolley that “I am absolutely honored to have been selected for this position.”
The report indicated that about 70 applications were received by the school for the open position and a hiring committee made the selection, looking to hire the “best coach possible.”
Tavares finished the 2014 season with a 7-3 record under Tavares alum, Chris Gauntlett, before slipping to a 1-9 record during the 2015 season under LaMarre.
