  1. Khalil Mack OLB from Buffalo and a Fort Pierce Westwood is heading to Oakland as the #5 pick overall.
  2. Buffalo traded up to get Sammy Watkins out of Clemson. Watkins a WR is a South Fort Myers alum.
  3. First Florida player and first QB off the board is...Blake Bortles going to the Jaguars!
  4. Clowney to the Texans #1 overall out of high school and now the #1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft
  5. Share you thoughts on any and all of the 2014 NFL Draft Picks here. However, I would like to make sure we do include some discussion on Florida guys who get the call. Just keep in mind to keep it all civil, but other than that, we should have a great time. I will be posting our NFL Draft picks here for the entire draft: http://flhsfb.us/1ov2X6z, plus updates on Twitter at @FlaHSFootball.
  6. Right and that is the concern...hopefully we will find out soon what is going on and get on to planning for the entire season knowing where our finals will be played at.
  7. Zoe Boy...want to welcome you to the forums. Tell you friends to come over and join us! Thanks for sharing information about your favorite rivalries.
  8. FHSAA put out an RFP (Request for Proposal) to select a new host for the basketball finals. Jacksonville and Orlando have been mentioned as possible cities wanting to host. However, no word yet (still) on the Football Finals, although the last time I talk to Dr. Dearing, they were closer to a decision of what is going to happen. Question now is will Orlando host for two more years at least or will another city get a shot at hosting the finals for the first time since 2007? Interested to hear your thoughts on all of this.
  9. Booker T. Washington will go in this season with a new head coach (but a familiar one at that) defending their state and national championships. However, a lot of the key playmakers that have been vital for this program over the last few years are gone, meaning a lot of holes will have to be filled in. Can the Tornadoes repeat in 2014 with this challenge up ahead? View our Way Too Early Top 25 profile and comment here with your thoughts.
  10. Armwood returns a lot of the team from last year's Class 6A runner-up squad. Do you think this will help them get to the finals once again, despite a strong quality game from outside of the Tampa area? Click here to read our short profile on them in our Top 25.
  11. The Apopka Blue Darters will have some familiar faces returning this season including QB Chandler Cox. However, Rick Darlington is going to have to work in some new faces taking over starting jobs. As he told one Orlando television station "Same gun, new bullets" - i.e. meaning same program, just new players. Read the Way Too Early Top 25 profile here.
  12. The American Heritage Patriots are the defending Class 5A Champions and is very much closer to the top in terms of candidates that likely will see the cut for the Final Top 25 later in the summer. They will have to replace Sony Michel, but they have talent returning as well as some new faces that are likely to step in right away. Read here about their Way Too Early Top 25 profile.
  13. Texas won't participate. Even with $50,000 in hand each year the UIL isn't going to accept it due to the fact they already play a 16 game schedule if a team makes a run through the playoffs and to the state finals. Football is not like basketball and this concept could be hard to even take on.
  14. Curious to see what you might have for a "Way To Early Preseason Top 25" Post your Top 25. I am interested in seeing who you think should be where and why. - Josh
  15. Paragon Marketing who is partners with the FHSAA has proposed the High School Football Series which would be similar to the NHSI event in basketball every year that sends one or two Florida teams every year. As such this proposed series four place the four highest ranked teams nationally against each other, if the that state's association is participating in the series. You can read about the details of the proposal here and share your thoughts here on The Varsity Message Board.
  16. The FHSAA is proposing a variety of policy changes that will be discussed at the Board of Director's meeting come next Monday. Some of the changes include: - Lowering membership fees for continuing members to $25 no matter the school size. Schools use to pay a small fee per student in grades 9th, 10th and 11th grades. - Changing the classification term to where district assignments last every four years instead of two years as it is now. You can read more by clicking here and share your thoughts here on the message boards.
  17. We had something malfunction in our database several months ago and we tried to get to everyone to let them know to resignup with their old username. We have everything fixed now to where if something like this happened again we could restore things in a flash.
  18. I can see what you are saying about this. It makes sense in a lot of ways. Wasn't there a time back in the day that kickoffs were 8:00 p.m.? I have seen some, but I am not 100 percent certain if it was commonplace or not.
  19. Polk County is shifting all of its games back to a 7:30 p.m. start this coming season, a change from the 7:00 p.m. start time in past years. The Lakeland Ledger first reported the news yesterday and they say it could mean a playoff type atmosphere every week. However, I am not sure if that will be the case for every team, but this is a change considering a lot of areas have shifted to the 7:00 p.m. start time over the years, with Brevard County making the shift to 7:00 p.m. this past season.
  20. Cypress Bay knows better than to schedule easy. Head Coach Mark Guandolo won't let happen at all, not a least under his watch. The schedule for this year is a lot stronger than the last schedule I looked at which was Lakeland. Cypress Bay still has the annual matchup with Aquinas on the list and usual district suspects including Miramar and Flanagan, which both should return strong crops of talent. You can read the full schedule review here.
  21. This is one of the weakest schedules I have seen so far and it is starting to show that Lakeland is not interested in strong competition, but rather have 7 or 8 home games a year no matter who the opponent is. Here is my review of their schedule and how it stacks up for this year. This was a tough one to do in some respects. To view click link.
  22. Head Coach Rod Shafer is leaving the program to take over at Warner University. This came as surprise for both Coach Shafer and AD Marvin Pavy. Pavy told me that Shafer did not go seeking this job, so the change is quite shocking. As you might expect, resumes are already flooding in for this position, especially for a team that only loses 7 seniors that went to the state semfinals, falling to eventual Class 5A State Champion, Plantation American Heritage. You can read the full story here.
  23. Usually it is rare to see a coach go from well known program to a lesser known, but for Island Coast, the hiring of Wayne Blair from Boyd Anderson could be a homerun hire for them. Discuss your thoughts here and view the article by clicking the link.
  24. We took our first in-depth look at one of the many 2014 schedules as we head towards the spring football. Dr. Phillips schedule I personally will say is a bit weaker than it has been in years past. However, they still have some strong games, but not enough I feel that would push them as a Top 50 team nationally at any point this season. You can view our preview here and discuss your thoughts here.
  25. This is a test post for MVP
