Before Friday night’s contest between South Plantation and Taravella many people wondered who would become the top dog and run District 11-8A. Well safe to say we learned a lot! The Paladins of South Plantation established the run game early and played a hard nosed game of football.
Instant Analysis: Taravella knew what they were up against in Broward’s leading rusher Alex Collins. Collins who now has 968 yards on the season, used some zone defense to limit the big play ability of Collins. They were unsuccessful in the end allowing Collins to get two rushing touchdowns (80 and 81 yards).
South Plantation quarterback John Franklin had a strong game as well, throwing two touchdowns on the night. The first was a 15 yard pass to leading receiver Howard Davis and the second, a 50 yard highlight catch by Hordley Seide. Taravella’s defense is rather young and doesn’t possess the size necessary to be competitive in 8A.
Taravella running back Kevin Humphries did all he could. He had many highlights and displayed phenomenal athleticism. He ran for a 30 yard rushing touchdown late in the 1st half and added a 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter but all hopes of a comeback had been diminished at this point.
Key stat: 184. Collins rushed for 184 yards on 12 carries and tore through the front seven of Taravella.
Post game quote: South Plantation running back Alex Collins ” My first thought was to hit the hole hard and hit them in the mouth early.”
