The playoffs are here upon us and we are going to take a dive and look at this week’s slate for Class 1A, Region III & IV regional semifinals with our prediction of who will advance to next week’s regional finals.
Region III
Hilliard (5-4) at Hamilton County (7-3)
The Skinny: Don’t let a 33-12 loss at home to Taylor County last week fool you, Hamilton County coach Blair Armstrong sat most of his starters early to rest them for the playoffs. Hilliard has a few athletes here and there but none like Le’marcus Webb and Kentwan Daniels.
Prediction: Hamilton County
Lafayette (6-4) at Trenton (9-1)
The Skinny: For the fourth straight year Lafayette and Trenton meet up in the playoffs, with Trenton winning the last six meetings. The two met up in the first week of the season also with the Tigers winning 17-14. It’s been eight years since the Hornets last beat the Tigers look for the streak to extend to nine years.
Prediction: Trenton
Region IV
Pierson Taylor (4-6) at Dixie County (9-0)
The Skinny: Pierson Taylor is making their first playoff appearance since 2002, unfortunately it could be a quick exit. Dixie has won 21 of its last 22 games and was one win away last season from playing for a state title.
Prediction: Dixie County
Union County (8-2) at Crescent City (8-2)
The Skinny: This is the third straight season, these two will meet up in the first round of the playoffs, with the Tigers winning both previous meetings. The odds are way against the Raiders pulling the big upset as the Tigers not only won both games by 21 but the Raiders haven’t won a playoff game since 2000.
Prediction: Union County
