THURSDAY NIGHT ROUNDUP: Coral Gables edges Miami Carol City in close game

Coral Gables 14, Miami Carol City 12
According to the Miami Herald the Miami Carol City Chiefs outgained the Coral Gables Cavaliers 421 to 172 in yards, but it was two bi plays from Coral Gables’ Kevin Romer that tipped the scale in favor of the Cavaliers, while Gee Stanley helped out as well with the win. Read more here. Coral Gables moves to 1-0 while Miami Carol City falls to 0-1 on the season.

Hialeah 7, Miami Springs 0
The Thoroughbreds got the Steve Smith-era started with a close 7-0 win over Miami Springs on Thursday night. Hialeah moves to 1-0 on the season while Miami Springs falls to 0-1 with district play starting next week for the Golden Hawks.

Hillel 28, Miami Country Day 12
Hillel was able to start of the season on a high note with a win over a still struggling Miami Country Day program at home. Hillel moves to 1-0 on the season while Miami Country Day falls to 0-1

Miami Palmetto 41, Miami Sunset 6
Miami Palmetto Panthers wasted little time getting the season started off a high note over rival, the Miami Sunset Kights. Panthers move to 1-0 on the season while, the Knights fall to 0-1.

Monarch 27, Hollywood Hills 21
The Monarch Knights showed they still have some fire power left after all the offseason changes that were made as the Monarch edged out the Hollywood Hills Spartans on Thursday night. Monarch starts the season off 1-0 while Hollywood Hills drop to 0-1.

Oak Hall 16, Florida Deaf 6 – Suspended
The visiting Dragons and the host Eagles were able to get the first half of the season opener in before Mother Nature struck with a storm, that will see the game be finished on Tuesday, September 8. Read more from FloridaHSFootball.com here.

Pompano Beach 48, Highlands Christian 0
The Golden Tornadoes got the season of to a high note by defeating the Knights 48-0. The Miami Herald reports that that Pompano Beach has won nine games straight going back to last season. Pompano Beach moves to 1-0 on the season while Highlands Christian falls to 0-1.

South Dade 40, Coral Reef 24
The Buccaneers made the most of Week 1 by making a statement with a win over rival Coral Reef. The Buccaneers move to 1-0 while the Barracudas fall to 0-1 on the season.

South Plantation 26, Cooper City 13
Despite a recent coaching change during fall training camp, the Paladins of South Plantation were able to roundup the Cowboys of Cooper City to get a Week 1 victory. South Plantation moves to 1-0 on the season while Cooper City falls to 0-1.

Varela 38, South Miami 32
Varela got the season off to a high note by edging South Miami in a game just decided by four total points. The Varela Vipers move to 1-0 on the season while South Miami Cobras falls to 0-1 on the season. District play will start next week for South Miami.

West Broward 48, Coral Glades 0
The West Broward Bobcats use the momentum of last week’s kickoff classic win against Spanish River and drubbed the Coral Glades Jaguars to open the season. The Bobcats move to 1-0 on the season while Coral Glades falls to 0-1.
