Five thoughts from FloridaHSFootball.com’s Joshua Wilson after watching Buchholz demolish city rival Eastside in a 48-13 win on Friday night.
Buchholz’s Jackson White will keep Buchholz in games this year
If Buchholz has been looking for someone to help them keep them in games it is going to be Jackson White who is in his third year of starting for the Bobcats. White was impressive all night, hitting several receivers for touchdowns and not throwing any interceptions. For White
While Buchholz will be able to stay competitive in games, the kicking game needs to improve
Coby Weiss needs to find a way to not kick extra points so low that it allows the other team to get a hand up and block them. Unfortunately that happened Friday night, with Eastside blocking several extra point attempts. While it did not matter in this game, it could hurt Buchholz later on in the season when extra points made or missed could be the difference in making the playoffs or watching from home in November.
If Eastside wants to make the playoffs, they better get the snaps correct
This was one of the most glaring things of the night for Eastside with several bad snaps flying over the head of QB KJ Minter resulting in balls going right into the back field. Luckily Eastside was able to recover most of them, but that is something that has to be worked upon or it could cost the Rams a shot at the playoffs come later this season.
Eastside QB KJ Minter has talent
Eastside QB KJ Minter showed off sparks of what he is capable of doing on Friday night which included a 67-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that sent the Eastside crowd wild. However, he will need to get a little bit more support from his offensive line if he is going to have more than one run like that in each game this season.
City rivalry sees widest margin of victory in over a decade
With Buchholz’s win over Eastside, it was the widest margin of victory between the city rivals since at least 2004. Considering most games have been decided by 10 points or less before Friday night, this was bit of a shocker considering just how much pride each school takes in wanting to win the mythical Gainesville city championship.
