6. Columbia at Apopka
When: Friday, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Roger Williams Field, Apopka
Radio: Columbia – WCJX 106.5 FM, Lake City; Apopka – WBZW 1520 AM, Apopka
Why: Here are two powerhouse teams that have been consistent playoff contenders over the years and most recently over the last five years alone. Columbia is coming off a season where they saw their deepest run in the postseason since playing for the Class 6A state championship in 1997, while Apopka fell a few games short being able to defend their Class 8A state championship. Columbia is returning some quality players including one of the top quarterbacks in passing yards from last season while Apopka has 14 starters returning including eight that are part of head coach Rick Darlington’s power single-wing offense, which has been hard for most teams to shut down over the years. No matter who comes out the winner in this one, this will be a solid test for both teams in preparation for the season opener next week.
Predictions
