GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After waiting for the first four weeks of the season to be completed, FloridaHSFootball.com’s has released its newest hybrid team rankings heading into Week 5.
There are plenty of changes among the rankings in each classification as some teams fell out after rough starts, while others jump in after getting the season started on the right note.
A big difference from the preseason is that there are four new number one teams in the rankings with Apopka taking over the top spot in Class 8A, Cambridge Christian in Class 2A as well as Madison County in Class 1A.
In a very rare exception, which now solidifies the data used to produce the rankings, Cocoa took over the top spot in Class 4A despite only receiving one first-place vote. This was a result of Cocoa having a tougher strength of schedule than Booker T. Washington which proved to be the difference in the top two spots in Class 4A.
The same scenario also happened in Class 3A, where Oxbridge Academy received more first places vote than Jacksonville Trinity Christian, but the Conquerors strength of schedule pushed it over the ThunderWolves, allowing them retain the top spot they earned during the preseason.
Overall, 16 new teams entered the rankings with at least one for each classification, with Class 5A having the most new teams with four new teams.
FloridaHSFootball.com’s Team Hybrid Rankings take into votes from our media panel, each team’s strength of schedule, as well as an average of computers polls including those, but not limited to USA TODAY, MaxPreps and Joe Pinkos. The end result is a BCS-Style ranking for each classification.
The rankings will continue to be released weekly through the end of the regular season.
