GAINESVILLE, Fla. — After eight weeks of football, the FHSAA has once again updated the playoff point averages for all teams in all classifications.
Once again, some big changes have taken place across the board this week as some teams have entered the projected playoff picture while others have fallen out. In Classes 5A-8A, district record was taken into consideration except on certain exceptions which are noted.
For Class 8A, you will find a breakdown of point averages for each team in every region and a projected seeding (including tiebreakers) based upon the guidelines as published by the FHSAA (click here to view), as well as quick thoughts about each region.
NOTE: Teams in RED have clinched their district championship

No. 5 Wekiva at No. 4 Oviedo
No. 6 Mandarin at No. 3 Winter Park
No. 7 DeLand at No. 2 Apopka
QUICK THOUGHTS: No districts have been clinched yet in this region. Flagler Palm Coast won’t be able to clinch until the end of next week once they get through a schedule with DeLand and Mandarin on it, both who have been on fire and still in the mix, while Oviedo and Winter Park can outright claim their districts with wins. Apopka will have to wait until next week to claim their district with an outright win over Wekiva. For now with the rest of the seeds, DeLand enters the mix after a big win last week, bumping West Orange out who lost to Apopka. DeLand is projected No. 7 while Lake Mary falls to No. 8.

No. 8 Manatee at No. 1 Vero Beach
No. 5 Centennial at No. 4 Riverview (Sarasota)
No. 6 Treasure Coast at No. 3 Dr. Phillips
No. 7 Gateway at No. 2 Osceola
QUICK THOUGHTS: Vero Beach will be the No. 1 seed overall when things are said and done given the vast strength of their schedule this season thanks to both the performance of Centennial and Treasure Coast this season. With that said Osceola is likely to be the No. 2 seed, but anything with No. 3 and No. 4 is up in the air with District 8A-6 very much in shambles and likely coming down to a tiebreaker being needed. I would say almost say in full confidence that Centennial and Treasure Coast are for sure locks into the playoffs while Gateway and Riverview could be in or out depending on what happens with teams like George Jenkins, Ridge Community, Olympia and Alonso.

No. 2 Deerfield Beach (8A-11)
No. 3 Western (8A-12)
No. 4 Palm Beach Central (8A-9)
Wildcards
No. 5 Plantation
No. 6 Piper

No. 8 Park Vista at No. 1 Atlantic
No. 5 Plantation at No. 4 Palm Beach Central
No. 6 Piper at No. 3 Western
No. 7 Wellington at No. 2 Deerfield Beach
QUICK THOUGHTS: Atlantic still holds the top seed in the region and should be able to lock their district championship down this week officially. Palm Beach Central, Western and Deerfield Beach could also clinch and lock things down this week with wins. Plantation falls to No. 5 with their loss to Western last week while Piper, Wellington, Park Vista are still rounding out things here, but Miramar and Seminole Ridge could still be in the mix here in the last few weeks.

No. 6 Miami Southridge at No. 3 Hialeah
No. 7 Homestead at No. 2 Columbus
QUICK THOUGHTS: Not many changes this week in this region with Belen Jesuit and Hialeah swapping seeds while Miami Palmetto and Miami Southridge also swapped seeds as well. As I said last week, the teams you see here are the teams that are likely going to be representing this region, but keep an eye out on North Miami, Braddock and Southwest Miami to make some noise here late.
