GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Nine weeks of football is complete and the FHSAA has updated the playoff point averages for all teams in all classifications.
As such with this latest update, the playoff picture is starting to become much clearer with just two weeks of games left.
In Classes 5A-8A, district record was taken into consideration except on certain exceptions which are noted.
For Class 1A, you will find a breakdown of point averages for each team in every region and a projected seeding (including tiebreakers) based upon the guidelines as published by the FHSAA (click here to view), as well as quick thoughts about each region.
NOTE: The FHSAA announced last week that eight teams from Regions 1 and 2 in Class 1A will advance to the playoff bracket. That means eight of the nine teams will qualify from Region 1 while all eight teams from Region 2 have qualified for the playoffs as teams in these regions work to get back on the field to complete games that are left on the schedule for Weeks 10 and 11.

No. 5 Graceville
No. 6 Bozeman
No. 7 Holmes County
No. 8 Freeport*
*TIEBREAKER: Freeport would win the tiebreaker over Chipley with a Head to Head win.
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 8 Freeport at No 1. Baker
No. 5 Graceville at No. 4 Jay
No. 7 Holmes County at No. 2 Vernon
No. 6. Bozeman at No. 3 Northview
QUICK THOUGHTS: Some teams in this region finally are back on the field after Hurricane Michael really put a battering on the region. The only big notes of change this week are Northview and Jay swapping seeds, plus the addition of the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds with the changes made for Region 1 seeing Holmes County and Freeport as likely qualifiers, but Chipley is still in the hunt to get that No. 8 seed.
REGION 2
Team | Record | Avg |
Jefferson County | 4-3 | 37.86 |
Sneads | 5-1 | 37.67 |
Port St. Joe | 6-0 | 37.33 |
Blountstown | 6-1 | 36.71 |
Cottondale | 4-2 | 35.17 |
Wewahitchka | 4-3 | 35.14 |
Liberty County | 2-5 | 30.57 |
Franklin County | 2-4 | 30.17 |
PROJECTED SEEDS
No. 1 Jefferson County
No. 2 Sneads
No. 3 Port St. Joe
No. 4 Blountstown
No. 5 Cottondale
No. 6 Wewahitchka
No. 7 Liberty County
No. 8 Franklin County
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 8 Franklin County at No. 1 Jefferson County
No. 5 Wewahitchka at No. 4 Port St. Joe
No. 7 Liberty County at No. 2 Sneads
No. 6 Cottondale at No. 3 Blountstown
QUICK THOUGHTS: Biggest changes here this week in Port St. Joe and Blountstown swapping seeding position and the addition of the rest of the region to the bracket. As mentioned above, all eight teams in this region are qualified now for the playoffs. With most of the teams looking to get back on the field this week, things are very likely to change for the very last update before the Drive To December playoff bracket revealed in less than two weeks.
REGION 3
Team | Record | Avg |
Madison County | 7-1 | 42.00 |
Chiefland | 7-1 | 39.88 |
Dixie County | 6-3 | 38.78 |
Lafayette | 5-3 | 37.00 |
Union County | 4-5 | 35.00 |
Bell | 2-6 | 33.88 |
Hamilton County | 1-6 | 33.86 |
Branford | 5-3 | 33.50 |
Hilliard | 2-6 | 32.38 |
PROJECTED SEEDS
No. 1 Madison County
No. 2 Chiefland
No. 3 Dixie County
No. 4 Lafayette*
No. 5 Union County
No. 6 Bell
*NOTE: Lafayette’s record is 6-3, but last week’s game vs. Central Florida Christian will not count towards points as the game was scheduled last week as replacement game for the Graceville game.
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL MATCHUPS
BYES: No. 1 Madison County, No. 2 Chiefland
No. 5 Union County at No. 4 Lafayette
No. 6 Bell at No. 3 Dixie County
QUICK THOUGHTS: Madison County continues to hold the lead in the district and we should not expect any change with that. Chiefland is expected to win out the rest of their schedule and should likely be a lock for the No. 2 seed after Dixie County suffered a huge set back with Fort White last week to send them back down to the No. 3 seed. Bell and Union County swapped positions on seeding as well. For Branford to get in they are going to need a lot of help including Bell dropping at least one of their last two games in the process to get in the playoffs.
REGION 4
Team | Record | Avg |
Madison County | 7-1 | 42.00 |
Chiefland | 7-1 | 39.88 |
Dixie County | 6-3 | 38.78 |
Lafayette | 5-3 | 37.00 |
Union County | 4-5 | 35.00 |
Bell | 2-6 | 33.88 |
Hamilton County | 1-6 | 33.86 |
Branford | 5-3 | 33.50 |
Hilliard | 2-6 | 32.38 |
PROJECTED SEEDS
No. 1 Pahokee
No. 2 Hawthorne
No. 3 Fort Meade
No. 4 Frostproof
No. 5 Crescent City
No. 6 Williston
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL MATCHUPS
BYES: No. 1 Pahokee, No. 2 Hawthorne
No. 5 Crescent City at No. 4 Frostproof
No. 6 Williston at No. 3 Fort Meade
QUICK THOUGHTS: Hawthorne’s win over Keystone Heights in a Monday night make up had a significant impact on this region as Crescent City fell from the No. 4 seed to the No. 5 seed, but Wildwood which is looking to edge out Williston for that No. 6 seed will need help to get in as well. Pahokee’s loss to Seminole Ridge did not totally affect them for the No. 1 seed, but Hawthorne is not far behind from cracking the code to overtaking the Blue Devils for that seed.
