GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Nine weeks of football is complete and the FHSAA has updated the playoff point averages for all teams in all classifications.
As such with this latest update, the playoff picture is starting to become much clearer with just two weeks of games left.
In Classes 5A-8A, district record was taken into consideration except on certain exceptions which are noted.
For Class 3A, you will find a breakdown of point averages for each team in every region and a projected seeding (including tiebreakers) based upon the guidelines as published by the FHSAA (click here to view), as well as quick thoughts about each region.

PROJECTED SEEDS
No. 1 Florida High
No. 2 St. Joseph
No. 3 Fort White
No. 4 Baldwin
No. 5 Pensacola Catholic
No. 6 Taylor County
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
BYES: No. 1 Florida High, No. 2 St. Joseph
No. 5 Pensacola Catholic at No. 4 Baldwin
No. 6 Taylor County at No. 3 Fort White
QUICK THOUGHTS: A lot of changes in the region here with Baldwin slipping from the No. 2 seed to the No. 4 seed after an overtime loss to Santa Fe last week. With that St. Joseph moves to the No. 2 seed. However, the biggest jump was Fort White moving up from the No. 6 seed to the No. 3 seed after a huge win over Dixie County. Pensacola Catholic slides down to the No. 5 seed here with Taylor County sitting at the No. 6 seed. Episcopal is not far behind so I do expect some shifts to happen here as we get closer to reveal day.
REGION 2
Team | Record | Avg |
First Academy (Orlando) | 7-0 | 39.43 |
King’s Academy | 8-1 | 38.44 |
Cardinal Newman | 7-1 | 36.75 |
Father Lopez | 6-2 | 36.38 |
Melbourne Central Catholic | 5-3 | 34.88 |
Taylor (Pierson) | 3-5 | 33.50 |
Holy Trinity | 3-4 | 33.43 |
Trinity Prep | 1-7 | 30.13 |
PROJECTED SEEDS
No. 1 First Academy (Orlando)
No. 2 King’s Academy
No. 3 Cardinal Newman
No. 4 Father Lopez
No. 5 Melbourne Central Catholic
No. 6 Taylor (Pierson)
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
BYES: No. 1 First Academy, No. 2 King’s Academy
No. 5 Melbourne Central Catholic at No. 4 Father Lopez
No. 6 Taylor (Pierson) at No. 3 Cardinal Newman
QUICK THOUGHTS: As I said last week, you are looking at the six teams that are very likely to make the playoff bracket in this region, but I will say that Holy Trinity still does have a chance depending on how they finish their season as well as how Taylor finishes as well. King’s Academy is edging closer to First Academy for that top overall seed, so I expect some shifts to occur in the final seeding order over the next two weeks.

Clearwater Central Catholic | 9-0 | 43.00 |
Cardinal Mooney | 8-0 | 42.88 |
Berkeley Prep | 6-2 | 41.63 |
Tampa Catholic | 6-2 | 41.00 |
Calvary Christian (Clearwater) | 4-4 | 38.13 |
Lakeland Christian | 5-3 | 36.88 |
St. Petersburg Catholic | 4-4 | 36.50 |
Trinity Catholic | 5-4 | 34.78 |
PROJECTED SEEDS
No. 1 Clearwater Central Catholic
No. 2 Cardinal Mooney
No. 3 Berkeley Prep
No. 4 Tampa Catholic
No. 5 Calvary Christian (Clearwater)
No. 6 Lakeland Christian
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
BYES: No. 1 Clearwater Central Catholic, No. 2 Cardinal Mooney
No. 5 Calvary Christian (Clearwater) at No. 4 Tampa Catholic
No. 6 Lakeland Christian at No. 3 Berkeley Prep
QUICK THOUGHTS: Clearwater Central Catholic jumps up to the No. 1 seed with their final game approaching with the No. 2 seed Cardinal Mooney that really should settle things as to who will be the top seed coming from this region. Tampa Catholic jumps up to the No. 4 seed after a big win over Bishop Verot last week helped their average tremendously. Calvary Christian and Lakeland Christian know they will have to take care of business here as St. Petersburg Catholic and Trinity Catholic are still alive for possible seeding spots as well.
REGION 4
Team | Record | Avg |
Chaminade-Madonna | 6-2 | 41.38 |
Benjamin | 9-0 | 41.22 |
American Heritage (Delray) | 5-3 | 39.13 |
Westminster Christian | 8-0 | 38.75 |
Palmer Trinity | 7-2 | 38.11 |

PROJECTED SEEDS
No. 1 Chaminade-Madonna
No. 2 Benjamin
No. 3 American Heritage (Delray)
No. 4 Westminster Christian
No. 5 Palmer Trinity
No. 6 St. Andrew’s
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
BYES: No. 1 Chaminade-Madonna, No. 2 Benjamin
No. 5 Palmer Trinity at No. 4 Westminster Christian
No. 6 St. Andrew’s at No. 3 American Heritage (Delray)
QUICK THOUGHTS: Chaminade-Madonna moves up to the No. 1 seed as American Heritage suffered their third straight loss last week to Glades Central as they fall to the No. 3 seed. Benjamin, who remains undefeated, moves up to the No. 2 seed with a huge matchup with King’s Academy on the docket this week to close out the regular season. Westminster Christian and Palmer Trinity remain locked in for possible seeding while St. Andrew’s moves into the No. 6 seed after Marathon’s average falls.
