Orangewood Christian Rams at Foundation Academy Lions
When: Friday
Where: Foundation Academy Field, Winter Garden
Kickoff: 7 PM ET
Coaches: Bill Gierke, Orangewood Christian; Brad Lord, Foundation Academy
Last Three Meetings
2019: Foundation Academy 42, Orangewood Christian 21
2014: Foundation Academy 21, Orangewood Christian 0
2013: Orangewood Christian 21, Foundation Academy 20
Key Players: Orangewood Christian: RB Kaderris Roberts (2021), CB Lewai Mitchell (2021); Foundation Academy: WR/LB Danny Stutsman (2021); OT Hunter Moss (2022); OG Scotty West (2021); DT Edward Byrd (2023); DT Reggie Jean (2022), DE/RB Bryan Thomas (2022)
Skinny: As it appears to be the fourth-ever meeting between these two Orlando-metro small school programs, the stakes are set high as both teams come back with quality talent that was Class 2A All-State players by FloridaHSFootball.com last season. For the visiting Rams, Roberts (821 yards rushing, 15 TDs in 2019) will be the key leader on the offensive side of the ball again, looking to carry a load of the offense. Defensively, Mitchell (73 total tackles, 4 INTs in 2019) will be the leader again there, looking to potentially improve upon his numbers from last season. For the host Lions, quite a few quality athletes return including Stutsman (44 receptions, 891 yards receiving, 12 TDs in 2019), Moss (2019 first-team Class 2A All-State offensive lineman), and Thomas (73 total tackles, 23.5 TFL, 16 sacks in 2019). While the Lions do lose a few other key players from last year’s playoff team, the cupboard is not bare at all, and with that, this should make a very fun matchup once again to open the 2020 season.
