Skinny: In what is a battle of 2019 State Champions, both Champagnat and Chaminade-Madonna will be kicking off the season with this meeting. When the last time the teams met, it was in 2013 where Champagnat dominated Chaminade-Madonna. While Champagnat Catholic lost several key guys from their Class 2A State Championship season last year, there are rising guys who will make noise in this game including Class 2A All-State WR Malik Rutherford (2021) (45 catches, 867 yards receiving, 8 TDs in 2019), RB Donovan Jones (2021), OL Elias Blandon (2021) and DL/LB Walter Phillips Jr. (2021). Also joining the team this season is All-State Kicker Andres Borregales (57 of 59 PATs, 12 of 15 FGs, 40.2-yard punt average in 2019) who comes over from Chaminade-Madonna. With Chaminade-Madonna they are coming off a Class 3A State Championship with some key guys back including RB Thaddius Franklin Jr. (2021) who was FloridaHSFootball.com’s 2019 Class 3A Overall Player of the Year. Franklin who is coming off a 2,000+ yards season that included 28 touchdowns on nearly 300 touches is expected to be just as dominant this season. Other key guys to watch include All-State DL Kenyatta Jackson Jr. (2022) (46 tackles, 9 sacks in 2019), All-State DB Torrie Cox Jr. (2021) (39 tackles, 5 INTs in 2019), and OL River Brazil (2021), The biggest thing we know is that the Lions are going to win in this game.
