A look at who can win a district championship in Week 9 in Class 8A

While some teams have already claimed a district championship, a lot more teams can add to the list in Class 5A through Class 8A and lock up playoff spots for next month. Here is a look at where things stand right now in Class 8A as we head into Week 9.

Records show are district standings only, not overall records.

DISTRICT 8A-1

Bartram Trail, 2-0
Creekside, 2-1
Oakleaf, 1-1
Mandarin, 1-2
Sandalwood, 0-2

OUTLOOK: Bartram Trail took a huge step last week defeating Creekside to take the lead in the district. This week though, if the Bears defeat Oakleaf on the road, a district title and playoff berth will be clinched. However, if Oakleaf wins, it could set up some interesting scenarios for next week.

DISTRICT 8A-2

Lake Mary, 2-0
Seminole (Sanford), 2-0
DeLand, 1-1
Oviedo, 1-2
Flagler Palm Coast, 0-3

OUTLOOK: If Lake Mary defeats Seminole this week, the Rams will clinch the district championship and a playoff berth. However, if Seminole defeats Lake Mary, the Fighting Seminoles would have to wait until next week to clinch the district and a playoff berth unless DeLand gets upset by Flagler Palm Coast. Any other turn of events could set this district up for chaos.

DISTRICT 8A-3

Apopka, 2-0
Lake Brantley, 2-0
Ocoee, 1-0
West Port, 0-2
Evans, 0-2

OUTLOOK: Things are very interesting in this district as one game that was supposed to have taken place Week 4 between Apopka and Ocoee will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 2. With all that said, there is no scenario this week that any team in the district could clinch the district championship and playoff berth.

DISTRICT 8A-4

Timber Creek, 3-0
Winter Park, 2-0
Hagerty, 1-2
University (Orlando), 1-2
Colonial, 0-2

OUTLOOK: Right now, as it stands, no one can clinch the district championship and playoff berth this week, but looking ahead to next week either Timber Creek or Winter Park will officially clinch the district outright.

DISTRICT 8A-5

Boone, 3-0
Lake Nona, 2-1
Oak Ridge, 2-1
Freedom (Orlando), 1-2
Tohopekaliga, 1-2
Cypress Creek (Orlando), 0-3

OUTLOOK: Boone is the clear-cut leader here in the district and can clinch the district championship and a playoff berth with a win over Cypress Creek coupled with a Lake Nona win over Oak Ridge. However, if only part of this scenario comes true, it will set up for Boone and Oak Ridge to battle it out next week for the district championship.

DISTRICT 8A-6

Treasure Coast, 2-0
Vero Beach, 1-1
Centennial, 1-1
Fort Pierce Central, 0-2

OUTLOOK: Treasure Coast will take on Centennial next week and a win there could settle the district championship for the Titans. We will look at all the scenarios for this district next week.

DISTRICT 8A-7

Palm Beach Central, 3-0
Palm Beach Gardens, 3-0
Wellington, 2-1
Jupiter, 1-2
Palm Beach Lakes, 0-3
Royal Palm Beach, 0-3

OUTLOOK: A Palm Beach Central win over Palm Beach Gardens coupled with a Wellington loss to Palm Beach Lakes would give the Broncos the district championship and a playoff berth. A Palm Beach Gardens win over Palm Beach Central would give the Gators the district championship outright. Anything outside of these possibilities could open the district to new scenarios next week.

DISTRICT 8A-8

Forest Hill, 3-0
Park Vista, 2-1
Santaluces, 1-1
John I. Leonard, 0-2
Lake Worth, 0-2

OUTLOOK: Forest Hill can clinch their first district championship since the 1970s with a win over Santaluces next week. If Santaluces pulls off the upset, new scenarios and a three-way tie scenario would be looked at for next week.

DISTRICT 8A-9

West Orange, 3-0
Osceola (Kissimmee), 3-0
Olympia, 2-1
Dr. Phillips, 2-1
Celebration, 0-3
Windermere, 0-3

OUTLOOK: First, looking at Osceola, the goal is very simple this week and that is to get the victory over West Orange to clinch the district championship and a playoff berth. If West Orange gets the victory over Osceola, then the Warriors would need an Olympia loss to Dr. Phillips to secure the district championship. Anything else here would open some new scenarios for next week.

DISTRICT 8A-10

Newsome, 2-0
Durant, 2-1
Plant, 1-1
Plant City, 1-1
Riverview (Riverview), 0-3

OUTLOOK: A Newsome win over Riverview coupled with a Plant win over Plant City would secure the district championship and a playoff berth for the Wolves. Anything else outside of this would open up other scenarios for Week 10.

DISTRICT 8A-11

Steinbrenner, 2-0 – CLINCHED
East Lake, 1-1
Alonso, 1-1
Palm Harbor University, 0-2

OUTLOOK: Steinbrenner secured the district championship and a playoff berth with their victory over East Lake last week with only Palm Harbor University left remaining on the schedule.

DISTRICT 8A-12

Venice, 3-0
Riverview (Sarasota), 2-0
Gulf Coast, 1-1
Sarasota, 0-2
Lakewood Ranch, 0-3

OUTLOOK: No team in the district can clinch the district championship and a playoff berth this week. However, looking ahead, next week’s matchup between Venice and Riverview should settle the district outright for either team.

DISTRICT 8A-13

Boca Raton, 3-0
Deerfield Beach, 3-0
Monarch, 2-2
West Boca Raton, 0-1
Coral Springs, 0-2
Stoneman Douglas, 0-3

OUTLOOK: It is hard telling what is going on with some of the results in this district, but the core focus now is on Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach which both teams will meet next week and decide the district championship most likely at this conjecture barring any catastrophic breakdowns by one of the teams this week.

DISTRICT 8A-14

Western, 3-0
Coral Glades, 3-1
Cypress Bay, 2-1
Flanagan, 2-2
West Broward, 1-3
Taravella, 0-4

OUTLOOK: Things in this district are very simple for Western – take care of business with a victory over Flanagan and the Wildcats will clinch the district and a playoff berth. It is simple as that. Anything else will create chaos for the final week of district play next week.

DISTRICT 8A-15

Dr. Krop, 3-0 – CLINCHED
Miami High, 2-1
Miami Beach, 1-1
Coral Gables, 0-3

OUTLOOK: Dr. Krop clinched the district championship and a playoff berth last week with a victory over Miami High.

DISTRICT 8A-16

Miami Palmetto, 4-0 – CLINCHED
Columbus, 2-1
South Dade, 2-1
Coral Reef, 1-3
Southwest Miami, 0-4

OUTLOOK: Miami Palmetto clinched the district two weeks ago with a victory over South Dade and will be heading to the playoffs.
