WEWAHITCHKA, Fla. – Bobby Johns is hanging the whistle up and turning the lights off in the coaches office one final time as he prepares to retire from coaching football.

As first reported by Scott Rossman at WJHG-TV in Panama City, Johns, a Macclenny native and Baker County alum, has been a fixture in coaching high school football all across Florida with many stops along the way including a stint in Georgia in his many years of coaching.

Johns, who has spent the last seven years at Wewahitcka, also spend six years on the FHSAA Board of Directors including serving as Board President during the 2019-2020 school year has also been a vocal advocate of high school sports where ever he has been coaching at and/or serving as an athletic director. That advocacy has also been advocating for the smaller rural schools, which many of them are located out in the Panhandle.

To his credit, Johns has been credited as one of the loudest voices who helped salvage the 2020 fall sports seasons during the COVID-19 pandemic when the threat of sporting events was on the table of being potentially canceled as they were in many other parts of the nation.

Johns will continue to serve as Wewahitchka’s athletic director and girls weightlifting coach.

Wewahitchka becomes the 23rd head coaching change in Florida on The 2024 Original Florida Coaches Moving Van on FloridaHSFootball.com which you can view by clicking here.
