GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In a significant development for the Oak Hall (Gainesville) football program, Head Coach RJ Fuhr has announced his decision to step down. Since taking the helm in 2019, Coach Fuhr has led the Eagles to an impressive 38-9 overall record, solidifying his legacy within the school’s athletic department.
In the meantime, Oak Hall announced in a Facebook post that Randy Brower will serve as the interim head football coach for the 2024 season. Brower, with a wealth of football knowledge and a strong commitment to player development, brings five years of experience within the football program. Additionally, he has been an assistant coach for the Track and Field team.
“I am thrilled to have Randy Brower as our Head Football Coach for next season. His unmatched passion for developing athletes ensures that our football program will continue to thrive. Our Eagles are in great hands,” said Oak Hall Athletic Director Edwin McTureous said in the Facebook post.
Following the 2024 football season, Oak Hall will conduct a national search for its permanent head football coach.
Fuhr is set to join Union County (Lake Butler) as the offensive coordinator under Head Coach Andrew Thomas. Reflecting on his decision, Fuhr stated in a text message, “This will give me a lot more time with family.” He continued, “I have nothing but great things to say about Oak Hall and my 10 years there. I want to thank Dr. Hutchins, Edwin McTureous, John Perlette, Jeff Malloy, and all of the faculty and staff. This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. The hardest thing is leaving our players and the coaches on my staff. I am very excited about my next stop getting to coach for Andrew Thomas at Union County.”
Union County Head Coach Andrew Thomas shared his enthusiasm about Fuhr joining the program when reached by telephone late Wednesday morning. “We are excited to have him. He brings us a lot of success, and what he has done with the Oak Hall football program is remarkable. I have an experienced staff, and it just makes it stronger with the addition of Coach Fuhr.”
