  1. This is a true statement. Jesuit has defeated TC 18 straight years and in many of those games TC had a superior team. On paper, there have been years that TC should have rolled Jesuit by 3 TD's but they can't do it. I look at the 2009 Tampa Catholic team with Chaz Green, Christian Green, Henry McCloud and a stout defense and they still lost. In 2015, TC had Devan Barrett, Nate Craig Myers, Bentlee Sanders and a host of major D-1 guys and they lost to Jesuit. To really emphasize Peezy's point though, in 2013 TC beat CCC in OT. The following week, CCC beat Jesuit 21-3 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicates. Jesuit went on to dominate TC later that year. There's something to be said about football being mental. I've no doubt that TC will one day beat Jesuit, but right now Jesuit is on an upswing and TC is on a down swing. It'll be awhile before TC gets another crack, especially if they keep losing their key pieces to Jesuit.
  2. This is really ashame, this particular Chaminade-Madonna team has the potential to be a top 10/15 team in America across all the major polls considering where they are starting. I understand it's potential, but if they went undefeated I couldn't see an argument for leaving them out. This is the type of team STA needs to play. You have one of the top high school football teams in the world in your own back yard with one of the top S FL coaching staffs, this is the time to flex their muscle. I think one of the things that's hurting STA is the dominance of Chaminade. Those great players at Chaminade used to be back-ups at STA, but are now doing their own thing and getting national recognition. He might have been a wild guy, but when Jason Milgrom rebuilt Chaminade- he knew what he was doing.
  3. No- he was not. Kiael Kelly, according to Chip Bennett and anybody who has seen him in camp is a national recruit and one of the top rising Sophomore QB's in the Tampa area in some time. It's a big loss for TC and a huge gain for Jesuit who already has the pieces to field a formidable team this year. Prior to spring BCP gave TC all-access to their practices and scrimmages. There's some good highlight film of him there, plus he had a good spring outing against Wiregrass Ranch.
  4. He's a rising Sophomore. He's the 2nd son of Kenny Kelly, the first is Kijah Kelly who just graduated TC.
  5. Chaminade-Madonna is ranked #3 in the entire state of Florida, STA is ranked #2. Make the game happen!
  6. I think the first 2 FSU High School games (Ft. White vs Florida High and Taylor County vs Florida High) were also very competitive games. CCC/TC and Chaminade/Oxbridge were competitive as well. So, I'd say 4 of the 15..but your point is well taken. I see TC as a 7-3 type team this year. If they can find a way to upset Crestview on the road, then 8-2 is achievable, but that's going to be a tough task without some help. I think they have enough star power at running back (Caleb Tate, Jalen Bussey) and enough at WR (Chris Murray, DJ Taylor) to have a successful season, but the region is to strong to simply run the ball without a semblance of a passing attack week in and week out. As far as the CCC/TC game last year- the playoff game was a classic and made up for the dud earlier in the year when CCC won TC 25-0. You have to go back quite a few years to find the last time the road team won in that series. All of that said- I forsee north 3A being far more competitive than south 3a. But your 3A finals is going to be the biggest blowout in recent FHSAA finals history... Chaminade is simply too deep to be playing in 3A a
  7. I was able to confirm that superstar Kiael Kelly, QB at Tampa Catholic transferred to Tampa Jesuit. This is the 2nd high profile QB that TC has lost since the beginning of 2018. If it weren't for Oxbridge football closing up shop the talk of the town in 3A might be that TC has now lost 10 athletes out of the program to other schools. Now, TC still has 2x 3 star running backs, a very strong offensive line and a solid defense- but the point is this team could have been great, right now they're simply above average. It'll be curious to see who ends up getting the nod at QB or if one ends up transferring in. There's talent here for sure, but no stability.
  8. Tampa Catholic QB Kiael Kelly 21' transferred to Tampa Jesuit. Tampa Jesuit QB Luke Martin 21' transferred to CCC.
  9. I wasn't quite sure myself and decided to double check the Florida DOE with NCES which is a national entity, they list it as public as well (see here). Niche lists them as public charter school. With the FLDOE, NCES and Niche listing them as public that's enough for me. Now, you're also right- they apparently have an application process (see here). My understanding is that charter schools typically do have an application process but I'm not sure if everybody is admitted or not.
  10. FSU High School (Florida High) is listed as a Laboratory School. I wasn't sure if they are public, private or if Lab School is its own designation; however, the Florida DOE classifies them as public. So, in that respect- Maxpreps has 2 public schools in the top 12. https://app2.fldoe.org/publicapps/Schools/schoolmap/flash/schoolmap_text.asp
  11. Columbia, I looked up Ocala Trinity Catholic as they're a team I always keep a distant eye on- here's where they are starting: #21 in 3A, #291 (State), #4620 (National) Another team I was curious wasn't in the top was Orlando First Academy. They went 10-0 last year. They're at: #23 in 3A, #296 (State), #4770 (National) Computer rankings are rarely accurate this time a year and this year is no different- there are some head scratchers.
  12. Interesting.. but the issue is that they would need to re-do their schedule. The players that transferred aren't coming back IMHO. Quite a few players already transferred out but haven't announced it yet. They are down to 17 players and have some heavyweights on the schedule. My opinion is that a lot would have to happen to save the football program at this point -especially because it sounds like it's the administration that doesn't want it. Here's the link regarding the parent petition to try and save football: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/highschool/football/palm-beach/fl-sp-oxbridge-football-season-petition-20180621-story.html
  13. To give you a point-blank answer, no. Chaminade would have to completely fall apart for a 3A north team to compete with them this year. FSU School is a good story and I think they're in a position to get a shot in Orlando, but I expect Chaminade's only challenges of note will come from AHD and CCC, two teams that they beat 79-3 last year. I do believe Chaminade is still significantly better than both teams, but I also believe assuming those games happen (meaning, no upsets) they'll be more competitive affairs in 2018 particularly CCC which has seen a boon of transfers since their win over Clearwater in Spring and the addition of Jerry Wunsch to their coaching staff.
  14. Yes, I can. I'll update the original post for you.
  15. Once news of Oxbridge Academy disbanding the football team for 2018 hit the news I started receiving inquires into a new order for Class 3A- quite frankly, I was actually humbled by how many people thought of me on the topic. The reality is I did a post Spring 3A review a few weeks ago and neither myself, husband or brother were in a hurry to look at things again this soon after Spring ended; however, Maxpreps recently released their preview for the 2018 season which includes starting rankings for each team. It's cumbersome to track down as you have to look up each team individually and click preview, but the information is there. Because losing a powerhouse school like Oxbridge is a big thing I decided to meet the people who like rankings and random message board fodder halfway. Instead of giving my rankings, here is how Maxpreps sees things and I'll comment on their rankings instead. Lastly in the name of redundancy I decided to make a single thread dedicated to 3A summertime football so the conversation doesn't spill onto other topics. So, without further ado here are the preseason Maxpreps Class 3A rankings: #1) Chaminade-Madonna #3 (State) #31 (National) Region 4 #2) Clearwater CC #25 (State) #268 (National) Region 3 #3) FSU High School #67 (State) #667 (National) Region 1 #4) Tampa Catholic #81 (State) #1803 (National) Region 3 #5) King's Academy #89 (State) #1070 (National) Region 2 #6) A. Heritage Delray #126(State) #1525 (National) Region 4 #7) Berkeley Prep #129(State) #1590 (National) Region 3 #8)Benjamin School #133(State) #1668 (National) Region 4 #9)Melbourne CC #147(State) #1871(National) Region 2 #10) Calvary Christian Academy #203 (State) #2791 (National) Region 4 #11) Ft. White #218(State) #3034 (National) Region 1 #12) Calvary Christian #228 (State) #3175 (National) Region 3 What I agree with: Maxpreps is usually wrong at this point because it's only pulling data from 2017 and rosters aren't properly updated, but I think this is pretty close to what most people would pick. I love the top 3. Chaminade is clearly the #1 team in the class, CCC is clearly the #2 team in the class and FSU is a trendy pick to be ranked top 5 in the class. I personally had Tampa Catholic at #3, but they've bit hit with the transfer bug pretty hard and a popular rumor swirling all over Tampa is the QB is looking to transfer to Tampa Jesuit. Going down the list- I think Berkeley Prep is on the verge of the top 5 and correct at #7. Benjamin School looks good. What I disagree with: Granted the season is a long ways away- I was very impressed by American Heritage's performance against a good Lake Wales team in Spring. I'm thinking they should be ranked higher than King's and probably even with TC. If the TC QB transfers out, then there's no question- AHD is #4 IMHO. King's is a top 8 team, but #5 pretty lofty. MCC at #9 is probably a tad low- I know they graduated a lot and have some significant holes to fill but they did land the Holy Trinity RB and the younger Valentine RB is a rising superstar. Coach Sizemore won't let the program fall behind to far. Ft. White is probably a touch to low. I would probably swap CCA and Ft. White. A month ago- I felt Calvary Christian (Clearwater) was a top 8 team in 3A and they still might be, but they've since lost some key pieces to CCC. How would Oxbridge have impacted the standings? Had Oxbridge not disbanded football and not lost any players here is where they would be at: #2) Oxbridge Academy #12 (State) #167 (National) Alright- that's all I've got for now. Thanks for reading!
  16. Columbia, According to the reporter, the players saw this coming a while ago and multiple players that hadn't announced their transfer had indeed left Oxbridge already. I think now that the official announcement is out about Oxbridge the players who kept quiet will open up about where they are going.
  17. I know it's pre-season and more based on last years results- but according to Maxpreps had Oxbridge played football without transfers they would have started #2 in 3A, #12 in Florida and #167 in Nation for 2018. They really did build that program up quickly. Hope the players all land on their feet- I especially feel for the seniors, hard to go to another school for one year.
  18. Exactly! It's not that there's not an interest in reading or learning about other programs in the state- but if nobody talks about them or have knowledge of them then they'll get glossed over. The teams listed in the original post are old favorites- people have talked about them for years because they've had success and are anticipated to continue to have success in 2018 and beyond. That said- throw some team names out that you're interested in talking about.
  19. Oxbridge's Antavious Lane has transferred to Dwyer per his twitter account.
  20. Darter, you're 100% thinking what I'm thinking. It's not cheap, so when athletes are getting in for pennies on a dollar and the non-athletes are essentially paying for cost it tends to be magnified. It's a tough break for a program that had finally broken through to the state championship game. It's an interesting story since Oxbridge had all the pieces to be successful and become a year in, year out top 15 team in Florida and top 50-60 program in America. They might need to follow the same path as U-school, another 3A team that caught fire quickly, but couldn't sustain the program. Shut up shop for a year and re-open with an all new mindset.
  21. I'm hearing a rumor that #71 transferred to Palm Beach Lakes. His HUDL page was updated earlier today to reflect PBL, so I'm assuming it's true- but that's all I'm basing it off of.
  22. That's one of them! He pinned the tweet with the schools official response.
  23. The exact quote from the article is, "They are not a member. They are not an independent. They are considered a non-member," Niblett said of Superior Collegiate. "So in that sense they can operate like an independent." That's kind of a confusing response in context of your question, but it's the best I have. I think you nailed it though- SSAC members are essentially FHSAA independents. According to the quote- it says Superior is a non-member. It opens up a lot of questions, for instance- if they are not an independent and considered a non-member, do teams that play them still get points? If the answer is no, it's going to be VERY difficult to fill that schedule.
