  1. If they upset STA who would then be the toughest opponent out of the 4 that you could face in the 3rd round?
  2. Its a tough line to take. Those backups that are now getting a chance are looking to show their coach they have done the right things in practice and can contribute when called upon. On the other hand the other team now down by 35 or more has a bit of work to do on the mental side of things. Their players must now have pride in themselves to finish the game with the same intensity that they started with.
  3. I don't think it was but a couple of kids and they played DB. I was surprised that starters on a state semi final team would transfer to Palmetto but I don't walk in their shoes so... Palmetto and Braden River play this week so that should be a good one as well.
  4. Chop block I will agree with as I stand in the end zone and didnt see that in the play. The others I did not see due to where I was at the game so cant call it in either way. The push off for the the long TD pass in the 3rd Qt was the non call that resulted in 7 points for Braden River. Overall I didn't feel it was so Venice biased but to your comment above I could also be subconsciously influenced as well.
  5. In whatever case you may want to side with penalties non calls whatever this was a great game to watch. I knew both teams would be ready and they were. Braden River and Venice both had 2 weeks to get it together. What you have to ask yourself in the coming weeks after this game is, who benefits more from this win? If Venice wins the district with a home field again in the playoffs. Braden River wanting to exact some revenge of their own to try to bounce Venice from the playoffs. If all works out the way it seems we will find out but issue is this is just 1 game and many other problems arise week to week.
  6. Few non calls 1 push off got them a long TD. Venice usually takes their share of penalties. Both teams had their share of flags. Its just when you are used to them going your way and they don't then the biased will come out.
  7. Being partial to Venice and after seeing both games last year I gave the edge to Venice overall. The improvement for Venice was evident. The loss of Braden River QB and O lineman from last year also showed. The DB transfers did not seem to make or break them. Since this was such a big game it also helped being at home. If it were at Braden River again score could have been reversed.
  8. That 6A match up of Charlotte vs Carol City would be a game to see.
  9. Students gathering near the baseball parking lot 2 plus hours before kick off. Should be a great atmosphere. People around town have been talking about this game all week.
  10. Hopefully they will keep the hot streak going and score at will. I think Venice has scored a TD on every opening possession this year and I could be wrong but every 2nd possession as well. That is where they have done the damage is in the first 2-3 offensive drives. Manatee was down 14-0 when they ran their 4th offensive play. Venice scored first fairly easily defense held to 3 and out punt and Venice scored again pretty quick before Manatee started their second drive. It is a big help that the kicker for Venice puts them through the back of the endzone and you have to drive 80 for a TD.
  11. When you are on top on the hill for long periods of time these things will happen. They will celebrate your failures as if they determine your destiny and look the other way once you are back to winning ways.
  12. Would like to say I am more confident to see a win this year as I had the Manatee game going either way as well and that worked out in Venice favor. Defensively Venice will give up a few points due to their RB QB. Its what the offense can do to keep out in front is where the difference is this year. If Venice wins the toss they will more than likely take the ball to set up a first score type mentality. Play to stop Braden River enough to be ahead at the end. Venice RB is avg 15 plus yards a carry this year and sits at just over 1000 yards in 5 games. Can the offense keep that blistering pace is the question.
  13. Venice with 261 points this year given up 37. Running clock every game to date. Braden River 202 points this year giving up 28. Im hoping that running clock is not an issue when the game gets into the 4th QT. The starters on defense have been taken out of the game twice in the first QT of 2 blow out games. Rotate in 2nd and 3rd string guys to get reps and they have given up some late TD. Kind of hard to justify keeping them in a game where the score was 38-0 in the first.
  14. Agreed that is not good. There talent is there but have not played the same teams Venice has. Hopefully that puts Venice in a better position come Friday
  15. Two different teams this year. Some of the same players but playing very different. Should be a great matchup Braden River plays palmetto the following week which will set the table for who gets in when Venice plays at Palmetto towards the end of the year,
  16. Both teams have a running back that can break a long TD anytime they touch the ball.
  17. This is a game that will most likely be packed and will put pressure on the loser to beat Palmetto to get into the playoffs. 7A-11 is a 3 team race as it was last year. A 2 loss good team will be sitting at home once again this year. With both teams having a bye week before this Friday it will be intresting.
  18. He looks like he has stepped in and filled that spot well.
  19. I have seen what Braden River can do twice last year. With Thomas back I wouldn't sleep on them at all.
  20. I have seen baseball-football-basketball you name it move to try to better their position in high school. Funny as 12 years ago I saw it in Pop Warner as well and now its just common practice.
  21. Last year Palmetto at 2 losses did not make the playoffs. Venice was the runner up and Braden River the winner. After that the rest of the teams are at the back of the pack.
  22. Have football transfers to the school you follow hurt or helped your program this year? I see some movement between schools lately around here has helped some programs and hurt others. Funny to see a kid transfer due to sports. Thoughts in your area?
  23. True any given Friday. I think the game to see will be the Venice vs Braden River match up. Hopefully both teams come to play. Win or lose it should be a great Friday night. Jumbo tron at Venice is working well and the new entrance is very nice.
  24. I would say no to either of them. I am biased on Venice but realistic. The game vs Braden River will be at home and most likely a playoff atmosphere. Great matchup for Friday nights.
  25. This particular poll is biased based off of margin of victory. HWY 17 has it pinned. Venice ranked #2 in the power 25 ? I don't think that is realistic. Venice #1 is 7A again a bit of a long shot. He also has Venice 69 points favored vs North Port in the first district game this Fri. While all signs point to a large victory, if they do not cover that 69 points the next week the rankings will reflect it and Venice will drop. The teams I have seen play this year-Lakeland in the spring-Plant in preseason-Camden County (who are a shell of what they used to be) Manatee and Venice would have a difficult time with what STA brings to the table. As the year goes along I think that STA will show its true rankings come November. Now with that all said I hope someone will take that step towards putting STA out of the playoffs.
