Below is the link showing the 5 stars, but I had the same doubts as you and think there is an error.  With a scout grade like that, am guessing he may have been 4 stars.

    http://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/147090/hayden-hurst

Yeah that's wrong. Has him ranked as the 73rd best player in the ESPN150. When you go to the rankings he's no where to be found. Hurst wasn't considered a football recruit he was all baseball. I doubt they even ranked him coming out of high school. He had to walk on after his pro baseball career was over.

Maxpreps has breakdown of where 1st round picks went to high school.  Only a handful went to schools whose names most would likely recognize.

    http://www.maxpreps.com/news/gOKQR9dUu0SwiZXXnlPMpw/california,-florida-lead-representatives-in-first-round-of-2018-nfl-draft.htm

...the Florida guys...interesting that 4 went to schools not considered traditional football powers but were still "found."  Their ESPN rating in high school is in parentheses after their names.

    Derwin James(5-star)-Haines City/Florida St.

Isaiah Wynn(4-star)-St Petersburg Lakewood/Univ of Georgia

    Hayden Hurst-Bolles(5-star)/Univ of South Carolina

    Calvin Ridley(4-star)-Monarch/Univ of Alabama

Lamar Jackson(3-star)-Boynton Beach HS/Univ of Louisville

    Sony Michel(4-star)-AH Plantation/Univ of Georgia

Hayden Hurst only played 1 year of high school football. Pretty sure he wasn't a five star recruit.

First off that same manatee team lost to Lincoln if i remember correctly and we beat Lincoln by 37 in playoffs

That game was 2 years ago if i remember correctly

I'll use GA as a example

Teams like lowndes play weak FL teams, i think plant was only team who top 50 when they played

    All were in GA

Grayson played img and Miami Central before but also played isb this past year

Colquitt played AHP and lost but also play lower level FL teams

Fact is most oos teams fear FL and they will instead schedule a 400th ranked team in state and act like they beat a powerhouse but won't have the guts to play a elite team and these FL teams won't turn a game down even if they will get blown out

You made the comment most OOS fear Florida so I had to look up some OOS games for what we would consider our top programs.

We have won our fair share of games and for the most part theses games are played out of state, maybe because they have a better facilities not sure. But these are just a list of teams and who we have lost too.

Miami Central- Dematha (MD), Grayson (GA), Camden County(GA)

Miami Northwestern- Chandler (AZ), Long Beach Poly (CA)

Miami Booker T Washington- Hamilton(AZ), Northside Warner Robbins (GA)

Cocoa- Bishop Gorman (NV), St. Edward(OH), Louisville Trinity(KY), Gonzaga (DC), St Joseph Prep(PA), Colerain (OH), Skyline(TX), West Monroe(LA)

St. Thomas Aquinas- Centennial (AZ), Bishop Gorman (NV), Don Bosco (NJ) twice

Plant- Colquitt County (GA), Lowndes (GA), John Curtis Christian (LA), Abilene(TX)

Manatee - Hewitt-Trussville(AL), Hoover (AL), Ware County (GA), Our Lady of Good Counsel(MD), Don Bosco (NJ)

I think its fair to say Florida has lost its share of games and people aren't fearful of them.

I can't speak much to this year's team because I wasn't there but I was at the one in 2015 who was 6-0 and number 1 in 4a

That Bolles team in 2015 was way overranked

Those teams don't even compare to that 96 Bolles team. The 96 Bolles team could have played with anyone in the country.

    Bigger question

What publication felt Bolles was best team in the nation lol

They probably weren't even best in Florida but i have hard time believing any Bolles team could take these big school powers down

USA Today. That Bolles team was loaded and could play with anyone. Not like the average one that beat Columbia this year.

Why is it an improvement?  I don't know if it is.  I also don't know if it isn't.  Someone needs to run the numbers and see.  I think with you bumping them all up 5 you really did nothing but help teams with losses.  Is that really what we want?  We want to help teams with good losses.

I haven't looked at it but if every category got a 5 point bump for a loss I would think it wouldn't really do anything. Because everyone no matter if you lose to Cat 1 or 4 would be getting 5 more points than last year.

Jacksonville has always been an enigma for me.  Like Miami, it 's a huge area with a huge population, including a significant amount of inner city kids.  Despite a number of private school options in south Florida,  the public schools in Miami have always attracted a lot of talent and the results show. Have often wondered why Jacksonville has not mirrored Miami in terms of results.

Jacksonville has lacked coaching and administrative support as has been posted. And Jacksonville is a big city but is no where the size of Miami. Miami is almost triple the size in population.

Well if we talking technically then any school who accepts transfers and generally gets transfers because of their reputation are passively recruiting whether public or private

Exactly. Big difference in that and what IMG is doing.

I never liked it when the Celtics were encouraging transfers. And, you could have fooled me, about the advantages of transfers and passive recruiting, as the Celtics have certainly not been very powerful over the last 3 or 4 years.

Well just because you don't like it doesn't mean you should leave them out when naming private schools. And that's obviously the difference in recruiting. OTC still passively recruits because of who they are by how you define it.

STA, Bolles, AHD, and a few others don't have to actively recruit, which is still against the FHSAA rules. The good players find them. It's not active recruiting it's passive recruiting. These schools are not in the business of developing professional NFL players so they are only looking for players, for 2 or 3 years,  who can help them win HS championships. I really feel sorry for the home grown players who sit on the bench, sometimes for 3 or more years, while transfers are passively recruited to play those positions.

There is a huge difference there. They really aren't even close to the same. My man issue with what you're saying is you keep leaving out Trinity Catholic in the list of your private schools.

I have no problem with IMG they can keep doing what they're doing. I hope they help some kids reach their goals. But to compare to them some of those other schools is completely unfair.

IMG is really no different than STA, Bolles, TCA, AHP, etc. They all recruit and pack their teams with D1 prospects. In a sense they are "all star" teams and not truly representative of their student bodies and cities they reside in. At least IMG admits that they are purely a professional training facility with recruits from all over. Knowing this I still appreciate the skills that they possess. After all, they usually don't play any local sisters of the poor to pad their records,  like the others do. They play against the best in the country. Every game with them is a championship caliber game. Over half their games are played far away in other states in front to hostile crowds. Three years undefeated against the best in the country is pretty admirable in my opinion. Only wish that IMG was closer to Ocala so that I could go physically to their home games.

IMG actively recruits kids from all over the country. They go after the 5 star kids everywhere. Their coaches get on the phone and call them and recruit them as if they were a college coach. Not even close to some of the schools you mentioned.
