DEERFIELD BEACH – For these two up and coming programs, they need every win they can get. Which is why Friday’s contest for Zion Lutheran and City of Life Christian Academy was one that was circled on the schedule for a while.
Although once the final horn sounded it was the Zion Lutheran Lions who were on the winning end of the scoreboard as they defeated the City of Life Christian Academy Warriors by a final score of 20-6.
With the win, Zion Lutheran gains their first win of the season and improves its overall record to 1-2. However for the Warriors, they added their first loss of the season as they are now 2-1.
“I am really proud of our guys.” said Zion Lutheran head coach Tyrus McCloud. “It all came down to who wanted it the most.”
At the half, the Lions and Warriors were tied at 6 and both teams struggled to find a real identity. However, once the second half came around, senior running back Frankel Alexis took over as he ran it in for a touchdown from 7-yards away with just over three minutes left in the third quarter as the Lions capped off a 8-plus minute drive.
Although the Warriors kept pushing with what they had, the Lions pass rush of sophomore defensive end Chris Judge, junior linebacker Ruben Monroe and senior defensive tackle Elix Ciceron led got three big time sacks on back-to-back plays to end a big drive the Warriors had engineered midway through the fourth quarter.
