Top Games
Lake Mary (0-2) at No. 3 Lake Brantley (3-0): The Bright House Game of the Week pits longtime arch-rivals against each other in the District 2-8A opener for both teams. Lake Mary can salvage its season with a huge win here to not only gain early control of the district but also perhaps some winning momentum. Lake Mary was carved out of Lake Brantley’s student body in 1981, slicing out a natural Seminole County rivalry. The two neighboring arch rivals play annually for the Mayors Cup trophy. Lake Brantley had owned the series lately, winning 9 in a row from 2004-2012, however Lake Mary has won two in a row.
No. 2 University (3-0) at No. 9 Seminole (2-0): The winner of this one would be a huge favorite to bring home the District 2-8A crown. The Titans backfield is one of the best in the area if not state and will be a handful for the Seminole’s defense.
No. 8 DeLand (1-2) at Mandarin (3-0): Don’t let the record fool you Deland is a very solid team with losses to two state ranked teams No.1 Mainland and Apopka. Mandarin is on a role and will be heavily tested in their District 1-8A opener.
No. 6 Spruce Creek (2-1) at Sandalwood (3-0): Sandalwood has looked unstoppable so far against lesser competition. This is a must have for the Saints a slip here would be disastrous in the big picture of winning the District 1-8A title. Spruce Creek would like nothing more than to upset the Saints and throw a big wrench into the district.
No. 7 Deltona (1-1) at No. 5 New Smyrna Beach (2-1): The winner can keep pace with No. 1 ranked Mainland for the lead in District 13-6A, the loser would almost have to do the immposile and upset Mainland to steal a playoff spot.
