Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville announced this afternoon, two promotions that will see a change not only at Athletic Director, but as well as the school’s Head Football Coach.
In a press release by the private Catholic high school, Bishop Kenny principal Todd Orlando, appointed Mark Thorson to the role of Athletic Director after serving the last 10 years as the Assistant Dean of Student Services while also serving as head coach since 2002.
Thorson replaces the retiring Bob West who is retiring after 39 years of service at Bishop Kenny.
Also at the same time it was announced that defensive coordinator Bobby Raulerson is being promoted to become the school’s head coach. Raulerson is no stranger to high school football in Jacksonville having previously served as head coach at Providence from 2011 until 2012.
Thorson leaves the position of head coach with a 97-55 record that includes 10 playoff appearances, three district championships and two appearances in the regional finals.
“I am completely confident in the decision to turn the program over to Bobby. He understands the program, our students, and our school and is an outstanding role model for our student athletes,” Thorson said in the press release.
Raulerson takes over a team that went 6-5 this past season, finishing at the district runner-up to Ponte Vedra in district 5A-4. The Crusaders were knocked out in the regional quarterfinals by Suwannee.
The appointments for both Thorson and Raulerson take effect for the 2016-2017 school year.
