It has been just over five months since Greg Bryant’s passing from a fatal shooting on Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County.
On Friday night, his high school alma mater, American Heritage School of Boca/Delray will retire his jersey.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Bryant’s No. 4 jersey will be retired in a halftime ceremony when the Stallions host Cardinal Gibbons in a District 3A-7 contest on Friday night. The retired jersey will hang next to the state championship banners and will go along with with a planned memorial statue to be placed in the south end of the stadium.
Currently, senior defensive back Josh Turner wears the No. 4 jersey in honor of Bryant and will be the last player to wear it. Turner will wear the jersey through the end of the 2016 season.
Bryant was known for his role in leading the Stallions to the 2011 Class 3A state championship with a win over Madison County. He signed with Notre Dame in 2012 and transferred out of the school in 2015, but had later committed to being part of University of Alabama-Birmingham’s football program revival after spending some time at ASA College in Miami.
American Heritage is currently 1-4 on the season.
