Welcome to Florida High School Football’s 2017 Class 1A Preseason Rankings for Flag Football. Each week during the season we will update the Top 10 rankings as well as provide an honorable mention list of teams that we are keeping an eye on. Information used to determine the preseason rankings include record and performance from 2016, recent history and tradition and the potential for team success in 2017. After Week 1 we will release updated rankings which will then be determined based upon information including record and games played by teams. It is important that teams update their information with scores with us on a regular basis each week by emailing us score reports at flag@floridahsfootball.com or updating scores in the ScoreStream app. Lack of information (scores) reported by the teams will only hurt their chances of being ranked, especially if they are having a solid season.
CLASS 1A PRESEASON FLAG FOOTBALL RANKINGS
1. Robinson Lady Knights
2016 Record: 17-1
The Buzz: A lot is being said about the Lady Knights having one of the best chances to keep a hold of the Class 1A state championship this year and the schedule will either make them or break them as it did last season. Keep an eye on this team!
2. Godby Lady Cougars
2016 Record: 14-3
The Buzz: One of three teams from District 1A-2 in Tallahassee to be ranked in the Top 10 for preseason speaks volumes. However, nothing speaks a higher volume behind the coaching of Chelsea Parmer and how she has quickly put the Lady Cougars Flag Football team on the map.
3. Harmony Lady Longhorns
2016 Record: 14-3
The Buzz: The Lady Longhorns are another team that has been keeping those in the Flag Football community talking and the will be a strong contender to make another deep to the states this year.
4. Lincoln Lady Trojans
2016 Record: 8-4
The Buzz: Some feel Lincoln will be a tougher challenger this year and they certainly have that chance given how strong District 1A-2 is across the board. The biggest challenge will be how weill they perform at the Capital City Classic in a few weeks.
5. Fort Pierce Westwood Lady Panthers
2016 Record: 11-2
The Buzz: Just moments away from getting to the state semifinals last year, a lot will be riding high for the Lady Panthers to repeat that performance, but they will certainly have a big challenge coming from district foe Glades Central.
5. Miami Edison Lady Red Raiders
2016 Record: 11-1
The Buzz: The second-year team in Miami-Dade County brings back the entire team and they have learned a lot in this last year just how much potential they have and their schedule will also test them as well.
7. Monsignor Pace Lady Spartans
2016 Record: 13-1
The Buzz: This was one team we thought was going to go far last year in the Class 1A playoffs, but after Coconut Creek bounced them early, it wasn’t meant to be. However, as one of the oldest programs in Miami-Dade County (public or private) that has also been consistent, you cannot take your eye off of them.
8. Chiles Lady Timberwolves
2016 Record: 11-3
The Buzz: The Lady Timberwolves will certainly be in the District 1A-2 hunt this year and the schedule is no walk in the park either after coming up just short last year in the district tournament.
9. Miami Jackson Lady Generals
2016 Record: 7-4
The Buzz: Another South Florida team that has a lot of people buzzing as they could be the team that will challenge Miami Edison potentially in the playoffs once again as they have shown some strong potential during the preseason already.
10. Choctawhatchee Lady Indians
2016 Record: 12-2
The Buzz: It will be tough to put Choctaw higher than here for now until we get a really good gauge of how they perform with outside teams at the Capital City Classic. However, there is plenty of talent that could have them right back in the playoffs once again.
