Each week during the season we update the Top 25 rankings in Class 2A providing our Top 10 teams as well as provide The Next 15 teams that we have ranked to complete the Top 25 rankings. Information used to determine the rankings include record, quality wins, defeating ranked opponents and strength of schedule. It is important that teams update their information with scores with us on a regular basis each week by emailing us score reports at flag@floridahsfootball.com, sending us a direct message on Twitter @FlaHSFootball or updating scores in the ScoreStream app. Lack of information (scores) reported by the teams will only hurt their chances of being ranked, especially if they are having a solid season.
1. Alonso (Tampa)
Record: 8-0
Last Week: 1
Quality Wins: Plant, Lincoln
The Buzz: This is the best overall team in the Sunshine State now. Alonso is the real deal with their offense doing what it needs to with an extremely impressive defense that has yet to give up a point yet this season. They hype behind this team is the real deal and could eventually be declared the Gold Bracket champions from the weather-shortened Capital City Classic in Tallahassee. The Ravens already are a lock for the No. 1 seed in District 2A-7.
2. Seminole Ridge (Loxahatchee)
Record: 6-0
Last Week: 2
Quality Wins: Dwyer, Wellington
The Buzz: The Hawks picked up two more wins, both being scores of 12-7 over ranked Dwyer and Wellington teams, with the Dwyer game coming from behind to win. However, they are not out of the woods yet of potentially taking a loss on the season with Jupiter left on the district schedule for the final week of district play.
3. Cooper City
Record:8-0
Last Week: 4
Quality Wins: Western, Hollywood Hills
The Buzz: Cooper City will wrap up district play this week with Flanagan and West Broward, but they are pretty much essentially a lock for the No. 1 seed in District 2A-13. However, their biggest test of the season comes on Friday against Godby at home.
4. Plant (Tampa)
Record: 7-2
Last Week: 3
Quality Wins: Steinbrenner, Riverview (Riverview), Seabreeze, Bloomingdale
The Buzz: The Panthers took a loss in a game they could have almost won against now former 1A No. 1 in Robinson. However, it was a quality game nonetheless and Plant is still in control of their own destiny this week in potentially locking up the No. 2 seed for their district tournament with a win over Wharton this week.
5. Dr. Phillips (Orlando)
Record: 6-1
Last Week: 5
Quality Wins: Godby
The Buzz: The Panthers picked up a win over West Orange and a big win against Godby at the Capital City Classic before falling to a tough Choctawhatchee team in their second and final game at the weather-shortened tournament in Tallahassee. However, the loss was not enough for us to warrant moving down right now.
6. St. Cloud
Record:8-0
Last Week: 7
Quality Wins: Florida High, Leon
The Buzz: The Bulldogs were on fire in the Capital City Classic over the weekend. They could potentially be declared the Silver Bracket champions at some point after Mother Nature decided to put on her own show during the championship game against a great second-year team in Madison County that saw them up in the fourth quarter before things were called.
7. Park Vista (Lake Worth)
Record: 6-0
Last Week: 6
Quality Wins: Boca Raton
The Buzz: The Cobras picked up two more wins last week including a shutout win over Boca Raton to remain undefeated on the season. Can full wrap up the No. 1 seed in District 2A-10 this week if they get wins over Santaluces and John I. Leonard.
8. Jupiter
Record: 8-0
Last Week: 8
Quality Wins: Martin County, Dwyer, Wellington
The Buzz: The Warriors are still working towards a fight against District 2A-9 power Seminole Ridge. A win on Tuesday over the Hawks would land the Warriors the No. 1 seed for the district tournament in their only game for this week.
9. Piper (Sunrise)
Record: 8-0
Last Week: 9
Quality Wins: Western
The Buzz: Bengals picked up their biggest win of the year with a win over Western that locked the No. 1 seed up for the District 2A-12 in two weeks. The Bengals have three non-district games remaining on the schedule for the season.
10. Dr. Krop (Miami)
Record: 7-0
Last Week: 11
Quality Wins: Mater Academy
The Buzz: The Lightning are proving their worth this season, remaining undefeated and having locked down the No. 1 seed in the District 2A-14 tournament which will take place in two weeks with the GMAC tournament and a possible game with Miami Norland left on the regular season schedule.
